I need to STOP helping my pastor find deals on bike stuff......he was looking for a decent light jacket. I go thru the motions and DANG it I found something I wanted/needed. Light packable rain jacket.
$59 for a $235msrp rapha tech jacket....um OK
https://www.competitivecyclist.com/r...acket-mens?s=a
some good deals on Sugio jackets on amazon too!!
plus note, we found a pair of yakima stand up bike trays on Offer up for $90, he got em for $50
Older design but will work fine if he adds better locking systems

who the heck makes rain jackets in dark burgundy and dark green? I'm culturally opposed to baby blue, so that's right out.

I bought a real live, actual cycling rain jacket a few years ago (showers pass) before our cycling vacation in Italy because there was NO WAY I WAS MISSING THAT! And it was supposed to rain.
Well, it never rained and I've never used it. It's a lovely bright green color. Takes up very little room in the closet.

For sure. It's an annual thing for me, despite usually not enjoying at least 3 of the rides. Whether it's broken spokes, brutal headwinds, a-hole drivers, cut tires, you name it-- I manage to have at least several calamities befall me in a week where I ride a whopping 50% more than usual. I've been mentally planning the week for months now-- minimal elevation gain, as many loop routes as possible. It's at least 18 hours in the saddle-- I did about 20.5 hours in 2015 and 2016, but trimmed it to just over 19 hours last year. This year I'm gonna try to finish it in 5 days. I have 4 of the days pretty much locked down, and will leave the rest to my own whims. There's always the 3.5 mile lap around my neighborhood. I've been around that about 250 times, what's a few more?
But you have two nice road bikes, both should be up to par for the challenge. I got some new stans rim tape for the backup bike aka cx/gravel bike that has the 38c overides. Can't wait to ride on 50psi again

Hit 10k miles for the year and finished the climbing challenge for December, so all that remains are soft rides on Saturday and Sunday to hit my weekly goal... and then the Festive.
I've been avoiding riding the road bike for almost two weeks, maybe 3 out of 12 rides or so-- I have over half the Festive miles planned for it, and I need it to be operational. Rode it for the first time in 5-6 rides on Wednesday... broke the chain pulling out of the driveway. The universe doesn't really need to confirm my paranoias.

11 Speed Chains?
I just replaced my chain on my gravel bike, so now I need to buy a new one for inventory. I see the KMC x11SL street price of $63. But I also see Dura-Ace/XTR HG901 around $40. On my 10 speed I’ve had good experience with the KMC SL chains, they last longer than the .93 version, at least for me.
any suggestions on 11 speed chains? I notice that the KMC is allegedly 228 grams, the Dura Ace is apparently 243?

SRAM PC-1110. Cheap. Lasts just as long as any other. So cheap in fact, when it starts to show any kind of wear at all, you just put on a new one. I’ve gone through like... 4? Relatively fresh one on the bike, and a new one still in the packaging. The only chain I’ve ever bothered to buy multiple times.

Santa brought me a Garmin 520 Plus. Today was my first ride with it, Arroyo Grande to Lopez Lake and back with my son. The Garmin worked well, I need to play with the screen format a bit, but so far so good.

I bought the 520 (regular) about... 18 nano seconds before they announced the 520+. The plus looks like a good unit! I do like the size and the clarity of the display, much improved over my old 800.

My Hammerhead Karoo has software written by lunatics-- it can use 20% of it's battery in 3 hours, or it can gobble down 40% in one hour. Sometimes the maps have no text on them, or it loses the power meter, or it just outright gets amnesia and forgets an entire ride. Sometimes it performs flawlessly for 10 rides in a row.
All that said, I'll never buy another Garmin computer. Ever.

For navigating a course in an unknown area I've had a good experience with Ride with GPS using their navigation feature on my cell phone. If I download the ride to my cell phone, I can shut off data to save battery life and it will use the GPS signal and still give turn by turn directions with street names. Works great and records the ride just fine.
I can't complain about Garmin. They exchanged a very old Edge 810 for a refurbished unit for $50 and the refurb they sent me appeared new and has worked fine.
