Poor Schwinn Voyageur 11.8 that I save

Over the weekend I came across a Schwinn Voyageur 11.8 of FB market place. It was in my size judging by the picture. Upon arrival the bike was hanging in the garage and the owner had told me he only rode it a handful of times. He couldn’t recall what year it was a 81-82.
The bike was cover in dirt and mostly grease.
Got it home and stripping it down cleaning it.
My plans are to do a campy Chorus 8 speed and saving the old parts. The only thing I’m using from it is the super Maxy cranks and dia-comp brake set.
more updates to come

Congrats! These are nice bikes as Schwinn started to listen to the markets. I am still working on mine. I plan on using most of the parts at first but then change out. You will have to use the stem, it’s the off sized one, 21.1/ .883 or something.

the chrome on these will clean up very well. Keep us supplied with pics as you go.

3090 on the head badge means it was built early Nov 1980, so a 1981 model. I think of some of the better Schwinns of that time like the Fujis of that time, "sleepers" with sometimes downright humdrum appearances, but with quite nice builds noticed only on close inspection.

Always cool to see the original LBS sticker - this was no doubt a campus bike (East Lansing). Indeed, good save.

Hey I actually prefer those ^^^^^ gizmos over the "lawyer lugs" they put on the dropouts on most forks. I'd rather flip those two things than have to remember, oh, this bike takes four turns of the skewer to remove the wheel, oh wait, no, five. Plus, it's a sort of Schwinn "signature".

Nice find OP at first I thought your seat tube was riddled with holes but realized it was only a scraped up decal, looks like some TLC will get you a nice ride.
