Schwinn Tempo Serial# & Value??
I have a Schwinn Tempo. Read a lot regarding serial # location but I am unable to find one on this bike....not on bottom bracket, rear drop or head tube. I did find "1006" on the plate which I believe means 100 day of 1996.
Wife bought me the bike in late 80's from her co-worker who described it as Schwinn's high-end racing bike. Schwinn's '86 catalog describes the Tempo's Shimano 105 derailleurs as "new", so the bike must be an '86 or '87. I believe '87 was the last year so I'm guessing it's not later than that.
I'm into biking upright today so moving on, but want to get some help from the experts on here to make sure I don't give it away.....any help offered on year/value would be appreciated. Thanks.

If original paint, colors will help determine actual model year.
Teal and white or a green/red/white fade is 87, dark blue and white is 88, gray is 89.
87 and 88 used Shimano 105 6 speed double, 89 used Shimano 105 7 speed double.
Even though these are excellent value bikes, they don’t sell for much. A REALLY good one with original equipment might move for $350.

I've owned Tempos and they are tremendous riders. There were at least two models above Tempo depending upon the year. In today's marked $350 for a clean example is possible.

Serial number should be stamped into the bottom bracket on the non drive side.

Thanks for the responses. Sorry my eyes are bad....found a VERY light "979494" on the bottom bracket along with "Made in Canada." Unfor this does not come up on any online lookup tools. It's original gray paint with small rectangular blue and like a lilac details....blue/lilac details unappealing. The bike few scratches that have surface rust but never crashed....I'd say good used shape as everything works and tires are newer. Just wow to $350....I'd be happy with less than that. I was going to list on facebook for $75.

Last year down here in Ventura County the guy I bought my Medici from had a real nice one and was asking $250 but it took quite a while to sell. He kept texting me to see if I would make an offer but I was involved with the Medici and didn’t want another bike. I can’t bring home two bikes in a short period of time or it raises the eye brows of my wife!

"Chicago" was just a reference to Schwinn's HQ, not the place of manufacture. Mid-'80s, I think the bike would have been built in Greenville, SC. The 1006 on the headbadge indeed day 100 of 1986.

Greenville, Mississippi is where the Schwinn Plant was post Chicago. In top condition, the Tempo's a nice bike provided it fits you.

The Tempos are GREAT bikes.
I have 3 of them
Quick and responsive...Like a sports car ....sometime too quick
That looks like a 26 " frame
Pretty big...... but it will fit someone !!!!
