Zipp 182 Track Axle

The subject of the scarcity of track axles for older Zipp 900 discs has come up a few times and I mentioned recently that I was making one for a friend since I have a machine shop and an original axle to copy.

My version uses a stainless washer instead of the flimsy carbon cover and the washer is held in place with a snap ring that holds it up against a small wavy washer on a shoulder. This means it doesn't rotate or other wise move around and has a close fit to the freehub side of the disc.

If anyone needs one or knows someone who does I can certainly make more. Contact me for more details (hope that's not against forum rules).

Damn, that’s nice.

Also, I think it’s fine to discuss what you’ve made as long as you don’t overtly offer them for sale in these threads. Only paying advertisers are allowed to do that (which is also an option for you).

Edit: I’m no longer a moderator. But that’s how I understood the rules and enforced them when I was.

You can also offer them for trade in the trade thread. What you and the other person decide to trade is up to you two.

super cool, excellent job.

I don't own an old zipp disc, but if you ever need help filling an order let me know and I'll take one just to support work like this.

I'm not familiar with the Zip axle but do the threads sit against the fork dropout - if so could the threads stop short of the dropout (especially for carbon fiber forks)?

This is a rear wheel so never in contact with carbon. On the NDS you could do the threads short but on the other side the threads are needed for the lock nut to preload the bearings.

Your bearing cover solution seems a lot more secure than the annoying o-ring in a groove that Zipps use.

Hm. I'm going to have to add Zipp rear discs to my search now.

Really nice work!!!

I did a rear to front conversion a while ago, using a titanium tube (and tube stubs). For quick release. Tube/shaft collars to center.

I can get better photos of anybody wants.

Hey, so I’ve gotten a few emails from folks finding this thread and at least once it appeared that my replies were going to the persons spam folder and we failed to connect. If you have contacted me and haven’t heard back check your spam folder or try again. Thanks!

Can you make us one of the 182 hub track axles?

Can you still make a few more? Would love to get one.

Hi Rustymongrel,

Regarding the 182 track axle for a zipp 900 disc, what a great job you have done with this, looks better that factory zipp. So I'm in the same predicament as many, need an axle, would it be possible to make more? I'm very keen to purchase.

Kind regards

Scott

182 track axle....

Hope I'm not too late to the game?
I just joined the forum so I can't message yet, but if you see this I'm most interested in one of your axles. I have a LOT of parts and stuff to trade. Please contact me if you have time.
Thanks
