friend of mine is selling this 2 jump bikes ones a specialized and one is a mongoose the moongoose is single spped

For jumping specifically? I can't tell what kind of fork is on the Hardrock, but honestly, I'd probably rock the Fireball, assuming it hasn't been *too* heavily abused by it's previous owner (as jump bikes often are). There are crap Mongoose bikes and good Mongoose bikes, and the Fireball is one of the decent ones. Not a top of the line DJ, but not a bad bike at all.

i done a earlier post saying i had to choose one of these bikes but the person said i can have both for £80
so i thought why not
but now im stumped on which one to act upon maybe i can take bits off one to add to another

so i suppose my qustion is whut is the better frame to start a build on
specialized hardrock comp or mongoose fire
the special seems much lighter than the mongoose but maybe thats not so important
il be useing one as a sort of light offroad up the sussex downs

What's the endgame with them? Do you want to keep both, or just one for light off roading?

The Specialized isn't a DJ bike, it's a regular MTB which the previous owner has converted, so should be quite easy to convert back to a MTB, it does look to be a very small size though, this could be a + or - dependent on the users height. Would strip the brakes off the Mongoose if only keeping one bike, or get some new Deore/Alivio brakes, from the look of it, you also need a front mech, shifters & crank, possible stem & handlebars if looking to convert it back into a MTB.

The Mongoose, first sort the seat clamp out, the slot in the clamp should be oriented to the slot in the frame, the bike is a DJ type, but looks to be a mix mash of parts, the brakes are several generations old, but still usable. keep, part out flip? what do you intend to do with it?

For the money paid, you got a very good deal, parting out what you don't need should make far more than the £80 paid, which will cover any parts like shifters & front mech and other bits for the Specialized.

Light off-road? I was under the impression you were going to be jumping these bikes. Hardrock, no questions asked. The only reason I suggested the Fireball was because I thought you needed a dedicated DJ. The Hardrock will have better geometry, will be able to have multiple gears, and will be lighter for what you want to use it for. It'll still be able to do some light jumping, but it's a more versatile bike, and much more appropriate for general trail riding.
