Do Araya CT-19 rims still draw interest or have any value?

In the late 80s I bought a set of 32 spoke Araya CT-19s with tires and Suntour GPX hubs for $100 on clearance. I guess they were already pretty old at the time because the shop owner wanted to move them out and he said they were worth $300 new. I rode on them for a while but I’m an old BMX’er so I was pretty hard on my 10 speed and subsequently my rims so I switched back to the original rims. I had the CT-19s trued-up and put them away. I just pulled them out of storage and was wondering if Japanese parts still draw any interest in the vintage bike world. I did a little research and I could only find model number CT-19N. Can I safely assume that the CT-19 pre-dates the CT-19N?

They are in surprisingly good condition, the tires are of course dry rotted but everything still spins like it should. Here are some picts: flickr.com

Any help, info or advice you can give me on these rims I would certainly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Bob-O

If they are true and the hubs are good, you could probably CL them for around $40. I would take off the tires and pie plate before selling.

Are they 27 inch or 700c rim size? 27 inch wheels tend to go cheap around here, 700c wheelsets will bring more. Depending where you live, used wheelsets bring minimal money. In general, buyers want modern wheels that accept 8/9/10 speed cassettes. I am always picking up wheels and reusing them on one project or another. Last wheel I picked up (orphan, not a set) was a 27 incher, $1....

Thank for the replies.
@Thinktubes: Good advice, the tires definity have to go but I didn't think about the pie plate. It's really shows it's age.
@Wrk101: Your question made me question what I had. I assumed a CT-19 was 700c but I just measured it and it's 630mm. I read Sheldon Browns page on rim sizing and now I'm more confused. A 630mm = 27" ... right? (yep... clear as mud)

Am I on the right track?

Thanks,

Bob-O

Where did you measure to? The outside of the rim or the bead seat diameter?

Outside edge to outside edge (diameter). Is that the correct way?

Probably means you have 622 (700c) rims. What you're trying to measure is the BSD, or where the bead of the tire is - so inside of the edge of the rim.

@Ex Pres: You're right,.. I measured them this morning and it looks like 622mm from inside bead lip to bead lip.

I appreciate everyone's help. At least now I know what I have.

Thanks,

Bob-O
