Normally my semi recumbent 1999 BikeE. I call it my lounge chair on wheels. If the weather gets bad I switch to my 94 Trekking bike. The recumbent has the disadvantage of rain causing puddles in your lap area. With an upright bike the water runs of better. And the recumbent seat gets soaked if exposed to rain.

For the past four years I've been riding folding bikes for my commute during the weekdays, since my commute requires me to carry the bike onto a train or subway to get across a body of water.
First was Bike Friday Tikit.. RIP after getting T-boned by SUV while crossing the street in crosswalk.
Then it was a 16' folder, until it got stolen from my locked basement while I was on vacation:
Then I got a 20" folding bike, it got stolen from a fenced playground:
Now I'm back on a 16" folder.. hopefully it keeps for a while.

I’ve commuted on just about every type of bike, but a CX bike with 32mm slicks gives me the speed, versatility, ruggedness, and agility I love.
My Fixed gear (or SS) works great as there is very little to go wrong or maintain (and is nice and light), but I’m loving commuting on fatter tires (32-40mm)

I doubt that my studded tires are any better and I hate them too, but when my work colleagues tell me their horror stories about falls on black ice I feel a lot better for some reason.

in most circumstances I take my Trek District for .y commutes. Rain, shine, doesnt really matter. If my commute is going to take me more than 30 miles from home or its particularly windy I take my Salsa Vaya

I have an 80/90s (?) Bianchi Project 2 that I've owned for a few years (with bullhorns as a cheater dropbar conversion) and a CAAD9 when I want some speed.
Just wish I got more than 18 rides to work this year.

My commuter bike for 8 of the last 9 years has been a RANS V-Rex. Really great for stopping at a red light and putting both feet on the ground and chilling. Not that I like red lights.
This is my last commuter bike, as I will be retiring at the end of 2018. But, it will continue to be my utility bike.

I use a relatively inexpensive ($500 plus a few upgrades & additions) single-speed bike, even though we have hills around here. SS drivetrain is easy to maintain.
For me, the key elements of a commuter bike are full coverage fenders, lights, and a basket.

A basic hybrid with a front suspension fork, larger tires, fenders: a Trek DS. Works pretty well for basic commuting.

this was Sellers picture(the company) before I set it up with mudguards , changed bars stem, Saddle, Pedals * added front racks head and rail lights,
changed the brakes to TRP Hy Rd and more recently replaced the steering masr which pictured is a folding Aluminum one ,
for a non folding steel one made for me, of my own design.
ending the small movement and creaking of the adjustable height alloy one..
* ( typically they ship w/o saddle and pedals, as tastes in those parts are chosen by customers
widely varying in their personal preferences..
H2O bottle now behind the seat , Abus Bordo folding lock where bottle cage sits..

I purchases a (very) slightly used Jamis Commuter 1cmx around 3-4 years ago and it's been my daily commuter ever since.
It's a basic city bike with a Shimano Nexus-3 IGH and with the exception of two wheels (Mavic A319's custom made for my weight being a Clydesdale), rack and the brakes (Shimano Deore's with removable pads), everything's pretty much stock.
