Old Rider, new to forum

Hi,
out in western Oregon, USA.
Grandad, 68,Retired, Lots of bikes, love short rides just for the fun of riding, enjoy bike history & alt builds.

Been "assembling" what I have called "fun bikes" since 1985.

Started then taking a used or broken BMX, and a used Schwinn 10 speed , and mixed them together.
In 1985 multi speed 20" bikes were not that common.
Did whatever it took to raise handle bars and seat post, laced in the hub and gears from Schwinn, used the
cranks, inner chainring, chain and shifter from the Schwinn, and had a small bike that was "Adult" sized,
fun to ride, and low cost.

Still go through building binges from time to time.

The last one, in 2016, included several of the "fun bikes', two 20" tandems, two modern "velocipede",
several rebuilt through aways, and a 20" trike.

We finally got high speed internet to our semi rural area, and got connected.

welcome any replies, comments, questions or e-mail. kent r

My main goal for assembling or building a bike is for it to be rideable, and dependable. Then finish comes after.

I weigh around 200 lbs, so they need to be strong. If they will take my weight, they will be fine
for any lighter riders.

Most all are made from old unwanted, salvaged, recycled, Goodwill, garage sale, trade in, low cost or free bikes.
Not trying to sell any, but do sell or trade a few when asked.
Have also done tune ups/rebuilds for other folks when asked.

Had a garage fire a year ago this month, lost 4 of the best to flames, and 12 wheel sets, 20", that I had just
rebuilt, set up with cassette hubs, gears and some with stainless spokes.

Still have lots left, and parts for more.

Also keep a couple of MTB's around for longer trips. One for summer, an old Specialized Stumpjumper,
and one for winter, with fenders, a newer store bought Schwinn.

The blue one in the pic is a Diamond-Goose-GT- type, first assembled in 1985, and the only one I have left
from back then. Been repainted 3 times now.

Mongoose frame, Diamond Back forks, GT handlebars, and an "imported" RL "forklifter" type stem.
The wheels I bought new in 1985. Also bought new stainless spokes at the same time, took the new wheels
apart, and replaced the spokes with the stainless.

Never meant for jumping, and not for long trips, just riding around for fun, these are the same wheels and
spokes from 1985. Have only retrued them one time. 5th set of tires.
Still have the same blue "Mushroom" grips.

Also bought a Redline Pro Styler , frame and components new in 1985.
What a solid, (rough) ride. Too rough for comfort.
Well, that one was just sitting around, and I needed some parts to build a three wheeled
garden cart for a yard maintenance job close by, and it got recycled into a garden cart.
Later I rescued the forks, stem, and handle bars to build one of the 20" tandoms.
Also rescued the wheels, laced in stainless spokes and set up another Redline frame
found at a grage sale.

I really liked those old Comp 3 tires, but cannot find them any more.

Thank you,
and yes, i have been searching the alt bike sub section pics,

Anything I can think of has most likely been done somewhere on the planet.

No surprise, but I am still amazed some times.
