Peugeot, Estate buy.

Peugeot Triathlon. Pretty amazing shape. Picked it up at an estate sale today. Looks all original, still has the yellowing plastic protective tape on the handlebars. No brake marks on the rims. Other than it saying made in France all over it, there's not much else I can add. Tires hold air, brakes still break, shifts like a champ. Wolber rims, 105 groupset, highly desirable Biopace rings lol. Year, value, or any other info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. :-)

Looks to be an '88 model and all-original except bar tape and the Quick-release seatpost clamp, per this catalog scan from the BikeboomPeugeot site:

Probably not protective covering; more like failed bar tape.

Nice bike. I wonder why people joke about biopace. I happen to like it. Just ahead of its time. There are several companies offering oval rings these days so obviously there is a market.

For being so unpopular now; they were on thousands of bikes BITD. I've probably flipped 50 bikes in the last 10 years that had biopace.

Nice, thanks. Good news on the bar tape cuz it'd be a lot easier to put white tape on it than find that funky splash patterned tape :-)

I actually don't mind them either. Been years since I rode a bike with oval chainrings, but it's not a major difference. Got the bike super cheap and I'm not planning on changing anything. Going to wash the dust off of it then polish up some of the parts and probably just take it out on the occasional Sunday ride with the wife. Will need to replace the dry rotted tires though. :-)

Nice bike looks to be a 88/89 model in the current very good condtion I would put the value at $300 or so. Should make a great rider. It seems when Tri bike pop up there in either beat to hell or basically unused condition.

Prolly need to regrease all the bearings. 30 year old grease isn't going to lubricate anything.

Yeah, most likely have it disassembled for cleaning so everything will be lubed on the way back in.

+1.
I had a 30 year old bike, excellent condition, less than 300 miles when I picked it up. But bottom bracket was bone dry.

Nice bike, nice color, BTW.

It's Shimano New 105 which places it 1987-1989 but I see a Vitus tubing decal, as opposed to Reynolds 501, which
makes it the 1987 model. Replacement bar tape in poor condition which is strange given the condition of the rest of the bicycle. Missing toe clip straps. Seat post binder bolt has been replaced by a quick release. As noted, an overhaul of the bearings is advisable. Value $250-$300.

The seeatpost bolt being replaced is the strangest thing to me. Hard to explain that. Bar tape? Eh... came with white who knows, coulda got dirty, coulda been replaced at the dealer, who knows. But the bolt, that's weird.

Thanks for the additional info.

I'm guessing somebody tightened the wrong side of the original seatbolt and stripped out the "keyed" nut. Pretty common mistake; oddball remedy.
