Vintage Mercier?
Hi, I'm wondering what a reasonable value would be for this Mercier--probably from the '70s. It's a 5 speed, ladies style. It looks nice, but I haven't seen it in person yet.

It looks it is in pretty nice shape. Are those new tires? Still, it could have been some time since it has had a full disassembly and tuneup.
Unfortunately (or fortunately), the old high tensile steel bikes are never too expensive.
I'd expect the bike to be somewhere in the range of $100 to $200.

Thank you for posting.
Looks to be in very good shape for its years.

Thinking mid-'70's because of transfer set, perhaps the 1975-77 window. Beginning ~1978 Huret began marking their components with a date so you could check for this but I think cycle may be just a shade early for this marking. When present, the first two numbers indicate the week of the year and the second two numbers the year. If the bicycle's wheel rims are Rigida SUPERCHROMIX there will be a two digit number inside one of the small diamonds near the name. This indicates the year.
One nice feature I see is the replaceable chainwheel. This gives more options as to changing the bicycle's gearing if one wished without having to replace the whole chainset.
This flickr page shows a variety of models and includes four catalogue pages but unfortunately does not illustrate this model. In the Mercier system of model designation it would likely have a number rather than a name.

Will leave valuation to others more knowledgeable.

...it's worth more in Portland, or some college town where they have Tweed Rides or a local chapter of the Cycle Chic crowd.
Most of the guys who hang out here are looking for something different, but I know women here who love that style of bicycle.
Sadly, there are a lot of old step through's around, and not enough women to recondition and ride them, so they usually go cheaply unless freshly overhauled.

Very nice bike. It could be worth a lot depending on who finds it. Women's versions are traditionally with less. Joe
