The perfect use for old steel rims

On my ride today (probably suffering from oxygen deprivation) I had a truly brilliant idea.

As you may recall I love cheap old French bikes. Living in a wet place I always swap out the chrome Rigida rims for aluminum so I can brake the bike. So I have a few old steel rims in my shed. I realized today that they would be PERFECT for use with disk brakes! No more worries about braking! Plus they would be bombproof. So I am going to lace all of those old Rigidas to 36 hole disk hubs and see how they work.

Lots of cool ideas out there for re purposing bike wheels and rims. Here's a couple I like, although they use the complete wheel.

You could also use them on a trainer, if you have to go that route.

Hopefully you don't have to brake suddenly for a squirrel running through...

I think it's an interesting idea, OP. Post a pic or 2 if you decide to give it a go.

I made a chandelier out of my Rolf rims that I had broken the hub on. Used an Edison bulb and it hangs in the reading corner of the cabin.

I work at a co-op, so I have access to piles of used spokes etc. I might just give it a shot with used parts.
