Evo Slay Frame

These appear to be a good deal right now, $84 delivered. Any suggestions?

Looks mighty iffy to me. They are takeoffs from previously assembled bikes. Shipped without a box? No warranty because it's an "OEM" product, not a retail item? No Geo available. Faux Stone finish from the 1980s.

  • Returns are accepted if you contact us within 30 days of delivery
  • Item must be in new condition in original packaging
  • You are responsible for return shipping
  • Items offered with free shipping will have the actual original shipping deducted from the return amount.

Paintjob looks weird and kinda cool. I could see picking up one for a beater/cruising around the neighborhood type bike.

Good points, and thanks.

I pulled the trigger on one of these and will build it up as a 2 speed with a Sturmey Archer S2 Kick Shift with 48-19 gearing.

Frame specs are not too different from the PX-10 I've been riding for the past 40 years:

And made in one of the same Chinese factories as most aluminum bikes.

I don't expect it to be a high end ride, but the components I will install will be way better than that complete bike.

All from this outfit Crosslake Sales / Random Bike Parts, see https://www.crosslakesales.com/collections/frames

This outfit has a pretty broad offering, has been around a long time, and has pretty good Google/Facebook reviews. I'll inspect it when I receive it, defects should be obvious.

I'd rather leave this outside of a store locked up than my vintage Peugeot.

Why 48-19? No issues with the odd tooth cog? I've seen images suggesting odd tooth setups aren't as good as even tooth setups. Don't know from experience though because I've only had even numbers to consider.

...Four degrees difference in headtube angle and 23mm difference in bottom bracket drop is fairly significant. But hey, you've been doing this for 30 years or whatever.

It provides the same 67" low / 92" high gearing now that I am riding on my current 2-speed setup. The S2 hub is a freewheel.

So based on your wisdom, what can I expect in terms of how it will ride differently?

Is the chain angle negatively affected by the tooth combination?

It'll probably act like it knows what it's doing, then do something really weird and clueless that indicates the exact opposite.

On what planet would this ever matter or make a difference?

If a buddy of mine was selling this frame for $85 because he was hard-up for rent money, I'd buy it and then give it back to him in a couple weeks.

I won't speculate on that, but something is wrong with those numbers. The PX has a 20mm shorter seat tube, AND a 23mm greater BB drop. Yet it claims a 23mm greater standover. Something is off by 66mm.

So here is what you get with this, including a bonus chainguard!

Welds are solid, alignment is perfect. Spacing for front and rear wheels is spot on. Headset and crank installed without issue, bottom bracket threading is clean and square. It feels strong and light, even with the steel fork.

Front caliper reach is 57-67 mm, this will get a Tektro R559.

Seatpost is 400 mm and decent quality. Frame measures 59 cm from center of BB to top of seat post clamp. Paint is pretty tough and has an interesting look. Unique cable attachment points along the right side of the top tube, perfect for a cable tie. Would be good routing for a 3 speed cable.
