I'm 70% chance of going, 30% chance of doing something stupid and take my CX bike to Bakersfield

Typically could be in the high 30's low 40's at the start (6AM) but low 70's at about 1PM When out in the early AM this time of year I bring arm warmers and not much else.

I'll be there as will a bunch of friends too.

Sounds fun, I used to live in 29 Palms and we really liked Palm Springs. There's also a double century up in the Joshua Tree area as well. That's sometime in March.

Good luck!

Can I just start at like 9-10am and be done about 3?
I don't like the cold or stowing a jacket for half the day. I may bring my apidura rapha bag to blame why I was so slow in the winds, surface area

Who got new bike first? You or @tunavic? LOL

I haven't decided which of my bikes will be ridden. Depends on weather...my carbon wheels might not be all that fun in heavy wind.

@jsigone 10-3 sounds about right for you but I'm starting much earlier

@Beachgrad05 I got my new bike first but I would be faster than @TrojanHorse on a penny farthing

I worry more about wind than cold. We've hardly had any wind. In fact I haven't passed on a single ride since August due to wind. Now that I've said that for sure we will have several haboobs to deal with.

Pinarello F8 with Ultegra Di2. It's pretty sweet. I'll take a photo or two tomorrow.

Yup mid August. I was debating on getting it at the time or wait til I come back from my solo Biking California tour. I knew that if I got my pinarello early that I wouldn’t even touch the “touring” Bike (cyclocross racer) until the week of the ride.....and I was right. Hide sights, when I got back it was sooooooooo nice to ride a bike lighter then 45 pounds all loaded it. The pinarello is a little heavier then my felt or cannondale but it rides nice and a bit faster too. Noticeable at 40-55mph, easier to get to speed and stay there

I hope it's not as nice as they're predicting - high of 84? Yikes. I don't think I'm ready for that kind of heat yet but... oh well! 60 at the start will be pretty swell though.

I will see you guys at the start. Where are we meeting? I will start with you guys. I can’t keep up so I don’t expect to ride the whole day with you all. But it would be nice to start out with you guys.

@tunavic @jsigone @TrojanHorse

I am afraid at least one rider was killed. There is another thread on it with a link to the news story.

It was not a good thing. They may need to patrol Dillon Rd vs just having some CHP at intersections. Have a few moto and a car patrolling back and forth on that road might go a long way to curbing vehicles driving at excessive speeds and to keep the cyclists from being all over the road. NOTE: I do not believe that the cyclists that were hit in any way were doing anything wrong. In fact I talked to a couple that saw the accident and described what happened and in no way were cyclists taking the lane. This was entirely the fault of the reckless driver.

I saw a photo where a whole group was in the full lane at the top of a rise where a vehicle may not see them as they approach coming up that rise. The photo was from Bicycling (the photo is from 2011 but the point remains that often groups are spread across the full lane causing a hazard on a road with sometimes poor forward visibility due to the ups and downs) https://www.bicycling.com/culture/cy...e-palm-springs
