I'm utterly incompetent at dog training so I wouldn't dare exercise my dog while riding. The first human, dog, or smell of another animal's poop or pee, and my dog would be pulling me wherever she was inclined to go. I like the idea of that quality time with Coco - but riding my bike with her would NOT work for us.

If you are referring to me, I do not let my dog pull me - we move independently under our own power with the retractable leash just under its spring tension. On blades/boards I often let him set the pace running ahead, lightly tensioning the leash is his que to slow down, "go" to speed up, "heel" drops him to my right side. On a bicycle, he's ONLY allowed to heel at my side (dogs/leashes near handlebar/front wheel is deadly). I constantly check behind me for approaching cars and bicycles, and we give right of way in the heel config.

Been doing this for a long time - we have a good system down and my dog gets all excited when he sees me pull out the blades/boards/or bikes. Not sure he'd like the Springer Bike Jogger idea though - he wouldn't be able to do much else than run. We stop very frequently for him to smell, mark, dump, and check out other dogs which is great with a 16' retractable leash... this is for his enjoyment.

I do it with my dog but I can't lie he has pulled me off my bike before, so as other people have said, it depends on the type of dog. I saw a women yesterday riding with a huge german shaped and all was well, the dog wasn't pulling and she was texting while riding lol.

My dogs run every other day 5 miles they start at 3 months we go on pavement and aome grassv. they do just fine all year round never had one issue .
The best technique is to use a bungee leash or an adjustable leash dont use those stupid contraptions . hold it kind of loose away from the bars ao it qont snap

i have wiped out many times the biggest danger is poop . you have to get your dog to poop before you go and do not let them stop for pee or water maybe if you hike for hours with stops thats fine but we do 45 minutes straits all work . some of my dogs even pull . wal mart has an anti pull harness that is actually great for pulling its ten bucks. But like anything you just have to pratice . know your dog as well . you can also use a bike light on its collar so it can be seen at night its always good fun i could not even imagine walking my dogs anymore ....
