Drop bar shifter for IGH

Someone in a recent thread wanted to build a bike with IGH and drop bars but had difficulty with shifters. Gevenalle has just come out with one that should work. At least with Alfine hubs.

Sturmey has shifters that can be mounted on the bar end, on a band on the stem or bars, or on a downtube boss.

Both of mine are DIY on the extra long TT, sweptback bar. The cable goes straight back to the seat stay. Front cable clutter sucks.
With the Rohloff I can't see the number, but I can feel 7th anyway.

Versa has a more traditional brifter for Alfine 8 and 11's.

I use a bar end shifter from Jtek with my Alfine:

I looked at the Versa brifter about 6 months ago, it appears to be unavailable. Di2 is what Shimano is pushing for dropbar IGH, with the new USA pricing it's more reasonable then 6 months ago.

I realize it is expensive, but R&E Cycles makes a shifter holder.

Any shop with a tig welder or brazing can make one^^.

& a common seat post has a 7/8" top end thats the size of the grip shifter ..
cut up a 1" Post or what ever size 2nd stem you get.. like 26mm 0r 1.25"

SJS Cycles in UK makes a T that comes off a clamp spacer in Aluminum It works too.

New for Rohloff is the Rohbox. the (<C> /Sram not shimano I Read) brifter pulls the cable . the box rotates the shifter.. External shift ..
1 cable per lever since its a Pull pull system.. Another German company made for but by Rohloff.

I have the Versa on one of my bikes. It's expensive and just *OK*. Wish I would have just gone with the jtek.

Yeah, they also make a thumb shifter for a Nexus 3sp, because who wants a grip shifter?

Don't know if it answers the question as it's pretty new and won't fit any other existing IGH but I find this kinda awesome :-)

Possibly. It should eliminate frozen cables though there could still be freeze between the servo and hub? OTOH, new cables and lubricants have pretty much eliminated this problem anyway. So then you have the problem of dead batteries. Though I guess you could setup something to charge them from a dynamo?

They do? I just took a moment on their website to look for it, and I can't find it, unless the Nexus and SA shifters are cross compatible.

I use a Co-Motion Rohloff shifter on my Winter custom. It fits on the 31.8 drop bars next to the stem and has a much larger diameter than the stock Rohloff shifter so it is easier to shift. I have Hubbub Bar End Shift Adaptor on an earlier converted bike and found after a long ride my hand would get tired from shifting with the extra resistance and small diameter. The Rohbox mentioned earlier looks interesting if I had not tried the Co-Motion shifter.

That is hilarious! I had the exact same thing on my old ten-speed to Alfine conversion, but mine was just an old MTB bar end, slightly shortened with a hacksaw. It was less than 1/10th the price of that one.
