Electric Bike Recommendations under $2000 CAD
Hello Everyone,
I am new to this forum and to the eBike industry in general. I looked at a lot of eBike but still confused so looking for help for anyone on here. My current needs for an eBike are as follows:
- Under $2000 CAD ~1600 USD (I can pay slightly more if needed).
- Short commute of 9 km one way (18 km the whole commute) but would like to use it for longer rides during the weekend. Overall though don't need a heavy duty battery.
- Something lightweight that I can use as a traditional bike when needed plus I will be carrying into my office. I am thinking something under 40 lb (I understand this limits my options considerably)
- I will need something that has or can easily install a rack to put my bike rack bag with my laptop + work needs.
- Handle hills without a problem (good amount of hills especially commuting back home)
- Comfortable ride
I am fine with preordering and with waiting. Please let me know if any bikes come right to mind with my needs or at least closest to what I am looking for keeping into consideration that I live in Canada. I will also try to update this with my bike I am thinking of (need to iron that out myself).
Thanks in advance!

I bought TIOBA bike equipped with BIONX 350W here in Calgary, for sure there are other prebuild ebikes with BIONX offered in Canada,
example JVbIKES in Vancouver sells many BIONX powered bikes, in Ontario for sure there stores selling BIONX equipped bikes.
Very glad with my BIONX, close to 1500 kilometers on it.
Want to stay legal , want to exercise, want to own Quebec-made drive, go for BIONX.
hOWEVER
you must remember that even the best edrive/kit/ can be recklessly, faulty installed,
like wires routing wrong way allowing water penetration /no rainloops/,
I had to rearrange wires entering motor for example - they must always enter motor from the bottom, not from the top.
Also entering display, any other device must be from the bottom.

Have you found ANY eBikes that fit your specifications: price, weight, etc...?
I'd recommend a mid-drive system if you need climbing ability. With that said, I'm not sure there are any eBikes under $1,600USD and under 40lbs. The mid-drive motor and battery by themsleves will weigh ~16+lbs.
You can take a look at what seller bmebikes offers on eBay for something in your price range, but it will likely be closer to 50lbs.
Good luck.

Thank you for the recommendations! May try to slightly bump my budget to get something that meets my needs and may go for something slightly heavier. Will take a look at all those and figure out if any work for what I am looking for.

All time cheapie is Sondors. I have 2 of their fat bikes but they also have a slim. gosondors.com
Easygo race from e motion fits in your budget and is a fun ride. BHBIKES
Flux is another startup that is annoying in their adverts but could have potential. A shill for their product got booted lately. I think their sales are on kickstarter.
Go above 2k USD and the possibilities increase.

I just bought a Rad Power Bikes RadRover Electric Fat Bike. $1674 USD after shipping. I didn't need any crazy range but wanted something a bit nicer than the Sondors bike and had a similar budget to you. I have not yet received it as it is backordered a few weeks, but I hear great things about it.
RadRover Electric Fat Bike | Rad Power Bikes
There are quite a review fairly in depth reviews on YouTube and they seem to be highly thought of. I think.

Velec
Have you given the Velec's a thought? The 36V A2 Model comes in around 40 pounds and I bought my wife's brand new last year for $1700 plus tax here in Eastern Ontario. Head office is in Quebec and parts usually arrive the next day. They also make a 36V foldable bike which may suit your needs. Its the Velec RX36. I'm not sure of the weight or cost but it may be worth a look. I have a Velec R48V which I love. However it's over 40 pounds and over $2,000 CAD. But good luck in your search. That's half the fun.

An e-bike provides you with a fast means of traveling than a simple bike or cycle. It is available at a low cost that makes it affordable and easy to buy by people. You can get the best Electric Bike for under $2000 according to your needs and requirements. All you need to do is to check the specifications of the bike before buying it to determine whether it fulfills your needs or not. you can consider these things before going towards the e bike under 2000 cad or 2000$.
- Type of E-Bike
- Motor’s Type
- Durability
- Type of Battery
- Build Quality and Design

People can buy ebikes for under $600 USD these days. If one has a good knowledge of bicycles, these could be a serviceable basic ebike.

That SWFT is the best deal I've seen. Reviews are great too; the detractors couldn't assemble the bike? or it didn't fit ? The ones that didn't like it seemed like a bunch of "brain surgeons". Would be fun to try one of these inexpensive bikes to see what problems might arise, but I don't want to ride around on bike paths that much.

This is a thread from 2016 folks. Eric I believe is here to maybe promote a blog or a product at some point maybe? Certainly didn't bother to look at the history.

Yes, I knew it was 6 years old. In 2015, I bought a good enough ebike for $1300 USD, and I also built one for under $500, both bikes continue to be ridden on bike paths and streets.
