I have the 11.8, which is in fair shape. It's missing all of the decals, very small dent on the top tube, has a replaced rim, otherwise components are original. I'm thinking about making a three way deal for an orange World, which is missing about every key original component. Either bike would be used as a rider (not a wall hanging piece of art). Any advice?

Normally if they were equal in originality and condition I'd choose the '73, but being full chrome and nearly original I'd have to go with the '81.

You want a Sports Tourer in 58cm too IIRC. I've got most of one, needs a wheel set, shifters, derailleurs, and levers. I think I have a crankset which matches the OEM in my stash somewhere.

My choice, the Voyageur 11.8, it is lighter Tom.

The Voyageur 11.8 is mark as chromo/butted main tubes (aka main triangle); read "it's other tube bits are something less than chromo". The World Voyageur is stated as being "butted chromo" in the catalog flyer, but I don't know if that's just the main triangle, or the seats and stays in addition. I'm curious to know which is lighter, though regardless which is lighter, I carry enough addition anchor weight in fleshiness to make a choice based upon frame weight differences full circle into a fair counter discussion of hypocrisy.

Roughly the same geometry...I just like the long pointed lugs on the Voyageur II.

The Voyageur II I got came with 99% of the original parts, and they were all higher quality than the ones on the 11.8.

Since your trade wont, it really comes down to vanity.

Having an 11.8, Im biased and would go that route. Decals are $50 for good ones.
...the original Altus components are less than impressive though, at least to me. And the 1st gen uniglide cassette is infuriating, if it isnt in perfect shape and it really cant be worked on at this point.

If the World has changed components, but what is on the bike all matches and makes sense, that's still a plus in my book.

Hey Lord, do you know if the fork or stays where chromoly? I've read that the paint is rather "delicate"; got a opinion on it?

I do believe the forks and stays are Chromoly. The frames on the '73 World is fully chrome under the paint, that's why the paint is so easy to scratch.

They're both 4130. The paint is fairly fragile. But mine has held up ok for 41 years.

And see, that's the point. Without all the original bits the '73 loses a fair bit of luster. Now you're down to two frames you can rebuild the way YOU want it. At that point choose the lighter one with no paint worries. In your hands now rather than haggling with TWO other guys makes it a no-brainer.
