Replace Dura Ace 7400 shifter with Micro Shift R9?
My 7400 series Dura Ace rear 8 speed brifter broke and based on research on Sheldon Brown and this forum it looks like these will work and allow me to keep my dura ace durrailer.

Microshift R9 9 speed shifters.
Has anyone else done the switch?
Thanks in advance,
George

The first gen of Shimano indexed shifters (DA 7400 IIRC) used different cable diameters and cable pull amounts per click. The first 6oo and second DA versions began what is the long standing cable pull ratios that we usually talk about. So you might find that a current shifter will pull the right amount of cable (of current 1.2/1,1 diameter) to work. Or you might find that after a few shifts the differences start to cause less pulley wheel under cog centering then you (and the wear/tolerances of man made stuff) can handle. Andy

I have seen this done using an Ultegra 6500 9 speed brifter on a Dura Ace 7400 drivetrain. Worked perfectly, so the Microshift 9 speed shifter should as well.
