Campagnolo DPro Wheels

I recently picked up a pair of Campy Zonda DPro wheels from 2006-ish. The Campy catalog claims no need to run rim strips (and the wheels did come without them). Has anyone run the DPro rims without strips? They dont really look much different from my 2016 Zonda rims, and I have strips in those (maybe I didnt need them?) but I put them in myself (those wheels were new)

I have a newish pair of Zondas - no need for rim tape, although I use a ~2” piece over the valve hole to protect the tube from the edge of the hole. IIRC the manual (or maybe some other source) suggested that cloth tape might help insulate the tube from rim heat from prolonged braking. Makes sense, I suppose.

Not having to use rim tape makes it much easier to install and remove tires. My Shamals are the same and I would never even think about rim tape on them
