can split brake hoods be superglued?
I accidentally caused a split in my "Hudz" 7800 brake hood yesterday while servicing the Flight Deck wiring harness. The hoods are new, but a fissure opened up that is about 3/8" long. What kind of glue would mend such as crack/fissure?

No, super glue cures hard. not elastic ..
Try Shoe Goo , flex seal, etc
Or Barge cement and leather cover it thin glove leather..

You might try a patch made from an old innertube or other thin rubber to bridge the gap, attached with vulcanizing fluid on the backside of the hood.

I was going to recommend a flexible epoxy, G-Flex from West Systems, but I think the smallest available packaging (two 4 ounce tubes or somesuch) is nearly 30 bucks.
Not sure that cyanoacrylate can't be used on rubber: it's how some patches are applied to the inside of tubeless tires. There's a product called "Boot Fix" that says its for gluing rubber and that its flexible.
If I didn't already have some G-Flex, I'd probably try 3M Black Super Weatherstrip Adhesive. Water- and weather-proof, and made for bonding rubber.

Given that these hoods are a $25 item I wouldn't spend any money on a special cement. I'd try the inner tube idea but I'd also be prepared to fork over another $25. Another idea would be to use strong thread and sew it shut.

I've used Tubassi sew up adhesive, but I glued the hood to the lever body. I did not try to fix the rip just secure so it wouldn't rip more. That was 1985, I still have the bike with the original hoods. I think I have re-applied the glue but that was still 20 plus years ago.
