Dreary morning. Stayed local and did repeats on Turnbull Cyn x10, 47 miles and 7500 ft of climb. CHP was patrolling Turnbull and pulling over speeders. Hope this is a regular activity for the CHP. Too many drivers with two ton bullets parked on the shoulders smoking dope.

The descent on Bin Pines with the view of Antelope Valley was really nice. Could not appreciate it during the ascent with the view to our backs. Some nice switchbacks to make it interesting.

Rolled from Encanto at 0700 to ride for three hours up a mountain just to take a pic, eat chocolate and drink Pepsi.

Perfect ride on a slightly cool morning. Water still flowing at the spring 4 miles before the turnoff to Crystal Lake.
50 miles and 6K of climb. Glad I left early. A lot of people coming up Hwy 39 like it was a weekend. So much for stay home - Not!

35 miles with 2 buddies. Left from Huntington Beach behind the Wetlands and headed down to Newport Beach, Balboa Island with trip on the boat across the harbor. Proceeded to Newport Back bay (Closed to cars!) and then headed back home (North) on PCH. Great Day, Great Weather.

28 mile loop down to Huntington Beach Pier. Rather uneventful except for the excellent TAILWIND coming home (North). Nothing like cruising at 20-23mph all the way home and hardly having to make an effort.

63-miler from carlsbad village east to college ave, then north to mission san luis rey, then west along the bike path roughly paralleling hwy 76.
north through camp pendleton to the san onofre state beach entrance and retraced route through state beach parking lot and camp pendleton.
rode past the o-side pier area and back to carlsbad village. nice day w/o much wind and started getting a little cloudy just after finishing around 6pm.
much of the cyclist route through camp pendleton has newish pavement.

By the way Mission Bay Drive was just repaved and is now glorious.

Trail by my old neighborhood. 32 miles round trip. It stormed last night so plenty of puddles and mud on the roads. Bike will need a little clean up.

Headed out at 0600 and did not have a pre-planned ride but wanted to try something new. Headed over Turnbull, north on the SGRT to Santa Fe Dam (the gate was open off Arrow), got off at Sierra Madre and introduced my steel Peloton to GMR. Not the lightest bike but climbing and descending I had a blast! Took the perfunctory bike pic at the shack.

Came back via San Dimas Ave - Via Verde - Grand - Lemon -Brea Cyn - Pathfinder.
80 miles and 6.5K of climb.

35-miler starting just south of lake cuyamaca in cuyamaca rancho state park off of ca hwy 79. headed north and entered into anza-borrego state park (california's largest state park),
hung a right on sunrise highway (san diego county highway s1) and rode to the mount laguna store and back to the start. nice day out. some nice flowers out. later start (2pm) meant
most people were leaving the area and made for more quiet even tho it's the weekend. fast and crosswindy descent (as always) heading north on sunrise hwy and actually put on the
windbreaker but coulda done the descent w/o it. was in zero hurry and needed a "recharging" ride. this fit the bill since this is likely my fave stretch in the county.

^^^^^(Ooga) Thanks, I'm eyeing the Tour de Big Bear 109/10K ride. I have until Sept to kick it in gear training wise. I've read a lot of good reviews on BF about this ride. I usually do not do these type of rides but this one seems reasonable with the bang for the buck.

i was gonna say...seemed like someone was training for a certain something...what's the route? is the big climb up damnation alley and the 38?
regardless, you've done the 39, gmr/grr, etc...you can handle whatever the san berdoos throw at you. if climbing the 38 towards onyx, the altitude
will make its presence known about 5 miles from the summit.

yes it is. i'm sure you also saw quivera to/from the ocean beach bridge got repaved as well. i feel like i should play the lottery.

I am not familiar with Big Bear but the link looks like it hits shorter climbs in Big Bear Lake proper before going up and over Onyx Summit then going back up the 38 from Angeles Oaks to re-summit Onyx before the final descent and finish.
I had a chance to ride up to 10K elevation in the Eastern Sierra so I have some experience practicing PLB Pursed Lip Breathing. I did not have any SOB with Dawson Saddle and that tops out at close to 8K.

CAT7 my wife & I have done the 70 mile route last 5 years. It is a great ride well organized & the whole town is involved I think you'd enjoy it.
O-B yep that climb up 38 to Onyx can take the wind out of your sails alright. I've often wondered how easier it would be at lower elevation.
Funny the short punchier climbs up & around the golf course & zoo towards the end of the route are much easier for me as they're only @ 6500' ASL or so!

28 miles loop down to Huntington Beach Pier. The wind was really moving around. It seemed that no matter which direction I was going I was riding into a headwind.

I have to say that stopping at the Pier and looking down Main Street is really weird. Kind of surreal. No one around, just as quiet as it could be.

Being 5x repeat riders says a lot about the ppl of Big Bear and their event.

^looking at the route you posted, the most scenic parts (imho) are in the first 3rd of the ride just when you are getting warmed up.
i wouldn't go overboard but the stretch heading west (and then back to the north shore of the lake) away from big bear lake is
especially picturesque. if you're a scenic picture guy, you'll want to snap a few along that stretch.

i always start feeling altitude enroute to dawson saddle just past vincent gap (but not up to blue ridge/inspiration point?!?!) on the east side of ach and about a mile into the last stretch
from islip saddle/hwy39 junction from the west on ach. 7,300 feet? if the final stretch to dawson saddle doesn't noticeably bother you, you'll be golden.

Yeah I'd call the entire ride picturesque but you're right along the 18 to/from Snow Valley to the dam it's difficult to focus on the road not the canyons! Lots of cyclists take pics on that stretch.
