Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

From my office I can hear the wind howling outside, ladened with snow. One of those nights it's not fit for man or beast.

Stupid thing is that back when I had clinical responsibilities, I would have felt I had to go in and shed virus all over a house full of people on chemo and exotic immune deficiencies.

I hear you. I still have that drive so I have only missed two days of work for illness in 18+ years at current job.

When I have a stupid URI I am very neurotic about using hand sanitizer before/after every patient to minimize contagion.

We have an explicit rule that everyone must clean hands on entering and leaving any clinical space. All personal are also supposed to log their "observations" and every week the EO of the hospital publishes the compliance numbers. We are generally above 90%.

I have taken other sick days, just don't remember when. Done some really stupid **** too. I can remember sleeping under my desk when I probably had flu.
