Getting Started

Picked up my first track bike yesterday. Planning to race quite a bit this year at the local Velodrome, which appears to be a good one. The bike is a 2019 Throne Track Lord (I guess I can't post a pic until I have had 10 posts). This is basically the third iteration of this bike. People had some complaints about the first two, but this one seems really solid for the price. Nice and stiff, carbon seatpost, carbon fork, and relatively lightweight. I am more than satisfied so far.

Right now, I am viewing this as my starter bike. If I like racing a bunch, I plan to upgrade to some aero carbon wheels soon (probably HEDs or Yoeleos) and then possibly get a nicer frameset (probably a Look 875 Madison, Dolan DF4, Fuji Track Elite, or Argon 18 Electron C) next season. Looking forward to getting into the track scene big time though.

I am definitely open to any ideas or recommendations anyone has at this point.

Nothing like a new bike to get the excitement going. Tell us, where is your local track? Check out there program and take there introductory courses or mandatory certification class. Track cycling is a great venue for competition and community. Have fun!

Thanks man! Couldn’t agree more. It’s Boulder Valley Velodrome. I am really looking forward to this spring and plan on signing up for the certification course sometime between now and then. Thank you for the info!

You lucky dog! Beautiful facility. I was in the area this summer and stopped by to visit. There was a training session on, and I met the father of a junior rider. We spoke for awhile, good guy. The director of the track is a former National team rider from my generation. You will be in a great place to learn.

Hi. Welcome to the forum and to the sport!

This thread is a few years old, but the info therein is still valid. Most questions you have (and many you haven't thought of, yet) are covered there.

Thank you for the confirmation. They certainly seem top notch from everything I have seen and heard. We also have the Olympic training center track about an hour and a half away as well. I might check them out at some point as well. I agree though, being a cyclist in Colorado definitely has some benefits.
