I have been known to wear a beret. If you're not wearing a helmet, it's very well suited for cycling. And you should see the old folks in France. They really do strap baguettes to their bikes. They don't use any wrappers, so the bread picks up road grime, and I guess they eat it anyway. And when you see the French carrying a baguette, there is always an end broken off. They just can't resist. And you couldn't, either.

This is a Hercules bike made in england in the fifties i think. The hercules cycle company produced bikes from 1906 or so until 1963 when it was absorbed by Raleigh. It is a dark green with white accents and a big round red reflector on the back it is an old bike but everything is working and the tires hold air. It is a three speed with internal hub shift. The chain guard is a little wavy the spring seat cover could use a new cover and overall it is antique. You should buy it and ride it around with a loaf of french bread and a beret on. I've been known to strap baguettes to the rear rack, but I leave the paper sack on the baguette and eat the end that pokes out before riding home.

Because the Brit word for smoke is the American put-down for gay men, I would think. But yeah, I can't see them riding around drinking the pint, but with the cigarette dangling from their lips WHILE riding a 50lb bike up hill in the rain, after consuming seven pints and a couple shots down at the local? Yes. My British friends all smoke like chimneys, and yet manage to do these amazing feats of strength while looking like they are doing nothing at all. It's bizarre.

My best friend married a Brit and lives in London. He is chubby and smokes all the time and collect vintage motorbikes to ride to work at a snail's pace in London traffic. Yet both of them can out-walk me anytime, and I have a great deal of walking stamina.

I know, it's just bothersome. One of my boys was sent home for school one day becasue he was wearing a T-Shirt from one of favorite bands Cocksparrer. "bad word" At the meeting with the school he asked if it was ok to wear a
Carolina Game Cocks T-shirt since they were an accedidited school and all.....red faces all around. He eventually won his case but the entire thing was a bit on the silly side.

folks are very sensitive about these things , and from what I've heard senses of humo(u)r are at an all time scarcity in Schools. My former High School in little tiny Sparta, NJ now has a "school cop" who is permanently assigned to the school you rode through my town Andrew....can you honestly picture a need for that?? Its nice to hear your boy knows who The Man is and that he needs to be messed with.

I don't think the seller is saying that you'll become british--or even french-- when you buy his bike. I think "Nick", a fellow Jersey guy, is speculating as to what sort of person might buy this bike. He knows it's a brit bike, he knows a tiny bit about the history of the marque, and i'd assume he knows where berets and baguettes come from, as he got the spelling right. He's just makign assumptions (funny ones, imho) about his target customers.

School cops. Yep, my kids' high school has 'em. Yep, this a big school in a big suburb next to Detroit. As for the ad -- you know, I've always wanted to ride around on an English bike with the English accoutrements. I just don't own one my size yet.

That would be well worth $75, but it's a Raleigh bike, not a "real" Hercules, if I'm not mistaken.
