Okay, it's certainly a frame modification, but I'm not sure how it makes the bike any lighter.
I like the simpler old-fashioned method used by an old Irish guy who was a neighbor of a friend of mine when he lived in Boston. He converted his lady's Raleigh by lashing a broom handle between the head lug and the seat cluster with twine. As he said, "well, it's still a lady's bike, but ye can hardly tell."

I immediately thought of this ad from my local CL, posted yesterday. "If you can weld then your good to go." If you can weld, and have $400 to spend on a broken frame. I know this belongs in the wacky CL thread, but it seems to fit so perfectly here.

Aluminum Raleigh - $400 (Seattle)

Aluminum Raleigh

This is an old frame, I fixed it up real nice a few times. But as it goes the frame broke. (check the pics) If you can weld then your good to go.

Nine hydraulic disc brake in font V in back. Everything else is new. Well was new a few years ago.

I'm not going to list off all the components.

White wall extra, comes with knobby Kendas.

I have a seat post and seat for it too, I was using my road bike's.

Look on the bright side: Drewfuss is probably going to be forced to keep it; I mean, he effectively destroyed not only the frame but his chances with a target consumer group as well. There can't be more than one person out there that's thinking "Man, this is so cool - I've just gotta have it!"

Or can there?

couldn't remove the cable, seatpost or bolt before spraying it with the wrong color blue?
Also, that is one crappy looking weld! Can't wait till the next owner has that top tube snap at the weld and jam into his femural artery.

" Everything else is new. Well was new a few years ago."

I think this sums up most CL posts .
Just because you bought something "new" and put it on the bike 5 years ago, does not mean you have "new parts" on the bike!

(and even many used car posts - "new tires! Just replaced ___")

Vintage Mens Peugeot Super Lightweight modified 10 Speed bicycle. This bike has had a frame modification and weights around 30 pounds. It is mostly all original and is lightning fast and super strong. These were Top of the line bicycles in the 70's and this one is a true survivor. The frame was cut and modified for less weight a long time ago and I have been riding this for about a month and have been having a ball with it ! If you want a Strong and Fast Vintage bike for a great price please come take a look.....We are located close to Chandler and Cooper in Chandler

Looks really "STRONG" don't it?

I think I'm going to vomit.

Forwarded to Bikesnob. Who knows if he'll read my email amidst all the litter that probably finds its way into his inbox...

I don't think it would have to be making fun of the person - it could just be a commentary on Mixtes versus 'mens' bikes. Some men perceive a Mixte as a girls' bike, when this is not the case. A mixte is a bike, and neither for a man or a woman. At least in my opinion.

What a terrible hack job! I thought the ad was pretty funny. The whole "man this thing really flies" was stupid funny.

The other CL ad with "if you can weld, you're good to go" etc was frigging hilarious.
