Newbie Help
Hi All,
I just upgraded my bike to a Giant Escape 1 from a Trek Verve 3. The Giant is much faster. However I can't seem to dial in the saddle. I keep pushing my butt back. I have moved the seat forward but am still trying to re position myself constantly. Also my triceps hurt from I think to much weight on my arms. I am just getting over open heart surgery so my longest ride so far is only 6 miles. I know this is going to be a slow recovery but I have to find a comfortable position. I had the Verve 3 fitted at a bike shop and wasn't all that impressed for the money I spent. Can someone advise? Thanks

get an leveling app on your phone. For "me" I like the nose of the saddle ever so slightly up, takes the weight off my hands and always scooting up in the saddle. Pending how your saddle is shaped, play with different angles so you get your butt to stay where you want it to. Usually down to the 1/2 degree.
Note: these changes are made on longer rides for me. Hard to get a feel for it in under 30mins unless the fit is completely off.
Tricep thing....this could be the backsweep of the bars are different then your other bike. Flatter bar sweeps tends to raise your elbows more which could effect your tris. More backswwep can fix it along with hand problems. I have my MTBs setup with 9* bars.

Thanks for the suggestions. I went back to the Verve 3 much more comfortable ride. I really wanted to like that Giant Escape 1.

I'd also suspect the reach, you might be pulling yourself forward. Try a 1 cm shorter stem - you may even find your lbs has one you can try (but don't count on it)

You may just hate your saddle! Most stock saddles.... well, why bother is my opinion. But every butt is different and what works on one bike might not on another. It's highly personal.

Giant saddles aren’t known to be the most comfortable thing. I was originally looking at buying the escape 1 disc myself, but then i saw the fastroad SLR (love the frame) then wound up getting the anyroad. Do a good fit test at your LBS, they can adjust the seat around from height to sliding it around and the stem’s can also change the feel a bit. But give a few saddles a shot to get the one where you feel the best with.
Also i found, don’t put all your weight down on the saddle try to split your weight up from your hands legs then some on your butt. That bit of advice made a WORLD of difference for me. My first time i couldn’t last more than 15mins and i was sore for two days. Haha

I did switch saddles to a brooks 67 Very nice.. Still riding the Verve though. Will prolly just give the Escape 1 to my son

Stock saddles suck for the most part. I always ditch it and get my favorite one right off. I think mfgs should should quit putting saddles onbikes and cheapen the price by $50.
