Cannondale mystery frame - 1994 M700
I stumbled into this NOS Cannondale frame on FB - seller was local to my parents and my dad picked it up. There’s been some debate about what it is since there is no Model number - one suggestion is a warranty frame and another is a special order that never was picked up. Either way, I grabbed it and will be building it up for myself. I'm prettu sure it's a 1994 and size is roughly 16.5".

I'm debating one of two directions..1 and 1/8" 1.25" headset.
- nice vintage parts (XT/XTR stuff... I know a guy) and take time hunting down the right parts for the build (game of chess)
- modern stuff that fit me better (165mm modern crank that supports 2x or even go 1x) set- guys in the car world call them restomods - additions are made in the spirit of the original but modern parts improved over time

I don’t think you could lose either direction you take it. Maybe do some XTR stuff (rear derailleur for
starters) but customize the rest to fit you.

Looks like it’s gonna be a fun build! My vote is restomod but you really can’t go wrong either way. I think good deals can be found for 1 1/8” threaded headsets since they’re not in very high demand.

Made in March 1994 and frame code is 3L5W16.

I've spent some time reviewing the 1993 and 1994 product catalogs on vintage-cannondale. There were two blue color options at that time - indigo blue pearl and cobalt blue pearl. I'm putting my money on indigo blue pearl as the color of this frame. Looks like the (pepperoni?) fork is intended to be set up as threadless headset.
Could this be an M800 "Beast from the East" frame in a custom color?

Most of the 1.25 that I've seen were threadless. Not sure who made/makes headsets in that configuration.
What is the inner size of the steerer? That may be a weird size to find a quill/threadless adapter for.
What is the inner size of the headtube (for fitting the headset race/cone)?
