To those of you who wear protection
What helmet do you use? I'm in the market for a new lid and want some input please.
Did you think I was talking about something else?

Whenever I order from Nashbar, I check out what helmets they have on sale; and if there's one for under $20, I'll probably put one in the cart. I have an old one or two hanging in the cellar stairs a new one still in the box on the top shelf in the hall closet. The one I'm currently using always has a mirror and waterproof cover over it, which will get transferred to its replacement if possible. I don't pay attention to brand names, models, or even whether I like it or not; it's a helmet, I wear it, I don't have to like it.

I have a Trek Vapor and it's been good to me. The very same day I bought it I landed square on my head and Trek replaced it for free. Trek's customer service has been more than fantastic in my three dealings with them.

I was looking at these the other day. I thought the REI web site had a good selection of helmets - racing, cruising and stylin' types.
Check this out - GIRO Surface helmet
These can also be had covered in leather for a more organic look.
Then there's this helmet - BERN helmet
I am atttracted to the simple style with the small brim, it reminds me of an equestrian helmet.

My first helmet was a Specialized S1, similar to this but a different color. I used it up until my first and only crash.
I replaced it with a Bell Sweep that I like it quite a bit.

I've lately bought Louis Garneau helmets on clearance from either Nashbar or Performance. The last one had the adjustable dial on the rear of the helmet to tighten and loosen it quickly - I really like that feature.

I'm interested in a new helmet too. My LBS owner keeps trying to sell me a Bern. I like the removable head (ear warmer) on some of the models. They're kinda clunky, though.

No one cares
i have a giro mtb helmet with a visor for rainy rides. The visor helps me see in extreme downpours.
I have a bell sweep for all other rides except recumbent rides when I don't wear a helmet.

The helmet I have now is OK, but it's a bit too small. I sweat like a ***** in church, so I need something that is going to allow max air flow over my cranium. I tried a few on at a LBS and I really like the ones with the micro adjust dial in the back, nice touch.

i have a bell citi helmet. i guess it's designed for "city" riding but it's my only helmet so i use it for everything. from what i've read, every helmet has to pass the same testing standards, so the only criteria to consider are fit, features, ventilation, and appearance. the citi fits me well, whereas so many others didn't, so that's why i chose it. it also has the microadjuster dial and a visor. i think i paid $30 for it two years ago.

My current helmet is a Bell Furio, purchased at REI with last year's dividend.

I have a Giro in red, another of the cheaper Giro Livestrongs from Dick's Sporting Goods, a Bell, and an Ironman Pro. I like them all.
The dial-fit feature works if you want to expand for winter cover-ups.
I also have "the Hat," but it's traveling right now.

I sport something similar to this,
that I picked up at Sports Authority for about $30 or so. Luckily I haven't tested the integrity of it so far.

I also have one of these I sport when i'm catching pitchers on my daughters softball team that has had the integrity tested several times,
and just discovered there is a recall on them
Under Armour has determined that there is a problem with its athletic cups breaking under certain circumstances. Accordingly, in conjunction with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Under Armour is voluntarily recalling all cups with the Under Armour logo, regardless of size or date of purchase. The cups sold for about $13 to $15, depending on size. This recall also includes all cups sold with Under Armour compression shorts, slider shorts or jock shorts. Please note that the shorts are NOT part of the recall.
Hazard: The cups can break if hit, posing a risk of serious injury hazard to athletes.
Incidents/Injuries: Under Armour has received five reports of cups breaking, including an injury
involving cuts and bruising.

I absolutely LOVE the helmets made by Uvex...the negative side is they;re difficult to find. They;re comfortable, price competitive and innovative in design.
My second choice, and what I own now, is a Louis Garneau. Louis Garneau have incredibly good customer service and I think offer great value.

I have a Bell Citi/Metro with a visor that I wear when commuting and a Giro Atmos that I wear when I'm riding "fast" (ahem).
The Bell was like $35 @ Amazon...
The Atmos was handed to me by one of the guys at my LBS...basically brand new...he had swapped it out for some ****** customer who decided he didn't like it. I didn't know it was a $150 helmet until I got home!

Giro Atmos in White. So very very nice. Giro's fit my head and have saved my life more times than I care to think about.
Fit is paramount.

I never wore a helmet my whole life until my oldest son started to notice I didn't. I felt guilty and picked up a Catlike Kompact Pro in white, end even for a confirmed helmet-hater like myself, it is not too bad at all. I like the fact that it is low profile and it doesn't feel like I'm riding with a wedding cake on my head.

I have a Bell Alchera that's comfortable, easy to adjust, and has good ventilation. Pretty much everything I ever hope to ask from a helmet.

I have a plus size cranium so I was happy to find the Giro Atlas II 'oversized' helmet. Cheap, fits well and works great for me.
Unfortunately, it looks like they've discontinued it so I'll need to find another good oversized option at some point.
