Grr... the fitness is gone

although I have a host of excuses ready to explain it. My ride today was hot, it was windy (a bit), I haven't ridden in two months as I recover from ankle surgery etc. Not my fault!

21 miles was about the outer limit today though, and my HR was sky high compared to what I would have expected for such a non-aggressive ride. I did pass an old man on an electric assist bike... twice... so there's that.

http://app.strava.com/activities/67162531

I'd post a screen shot of my power curve today vs. my maximal power for 2013 but it's depressing, so I'll hold off on that.

Good to see you back in the saddle. The fitness will come back. Just don't push yourself to the point of injury.

Lambert & Mar Vista, two streets I would never want to ride on unless I had to. But it looks like you were on the Greenway trail for part of it. Whittier Blvd., around the 605 is also horrid.

I was off the bike for a couple of months (until the end of May), and I'm slowly getting my fitness back. What can you do? Just ride.

the good news is that it comes back ;-)

I'm already surprised 2 months ago I was seeing a new max HR on most rides (topped out at 202 or 203... high for a fat 33 y/o lol)... the other day I was riding and pushing pretty hard and amazed at the difficulty I was having even getting my HR into the 160's...

Good to see u spinning again. I can say it will take a solid month to get that he down and control your breathing again. If it hurts, back off a few gears. And map your rides with the fewest amount of potential stop lights.

Glad you're back, it'll get better.

I was off the bike for almost 2 months once and it took me about that same amount of time to get my fitness back.

Glad you are back. I'm waiting on the doc to give me the OK. It's been 37 days since my accident and I fear that I'll have an FTP value of 1.FAT W/Kg

I don't mind Lambert east of say, first street but I stay off it west of there. Mar Vista also doesn't bother me but I seem to use that street a lot - I live just off Colima.

That 605 underpass on Whittier BLVD is usually where I get my highest HR for the day. Ha ha.

I usually avoid the greenway trail like the plague but that's about the right speed for me right now.

Fun times!

Yeah, not so well. I guess my diet could still use some improvement.

No kidding! I wish they'd widen and light that underpass assuming you mean the SGRT underpass/tunnel at Whittier Blvd

You need to be patient. Spend a couple of months just rebuilding your base.

Haste is slow, as you'll discover if you overdo it in the early stages.
