PSA: GMR-GRR closed to cars for 2 weeks

Rode GMR this weekend and noticed it was closed to traffic, so get out there and ride without all the motorbikes and boy racers. The sign indicated it'll also be closed 5-28 through 6-11, and I didn't see any construction equipment staged so maybe it'll still be ridable for the next two weeks.

If you go at night, bring a bright light and go slow because there were more rocks on the road than I've ever seen on both GMR and GRR.

+1 on the rocks and dirt - rode it saturday and it was nice to cruise around without worry of getting run over. The gates at GRR/GMR split were open Saturday, but I would still be careful on that short descent, you never know when they will be locked.

went up it on Saturday, there was a group of street racers at the gate, and I thought for sure they were going to cut the locks, didn't happen though. I left at 1pm, and saw a lot of people descending but I was the only going guy up. It was a great ride up but I did realize if something happened to me I was on my own!

Went up there yesterday... the closure is for filming San Andreas, not sure how passable it is going to be? When I was headed up yesterday they asked how long until I came downhill because it was going to be all dirt, and we could get off and hike up it. There are apparently going to be staged car crashes as well. Looked like they might be filming in Burro Canyon shooting range as well? They were taking like 8 truck loads of dirt in there that they had taken off the side of East Fork road.

so why exactly is gmr/grr ever open to cars between the east fork campgrounds and mt. baldy village? there's no discernable reason...is there? permanently close that area to cars except for emergency vehicles.

I rode it for the first time yesterday. The road was in decent shape and no closure that I could discern.

It wouldn't be a very exciting movie if they knew you could just ride your bike up there and rescue your daughter. Wouldn't it be awesome if, in the middle of a scene with choppers, fire, explosions you see a couple of dudes in lycra chit chatting their way up GMR?

I rode up Sunday and there is a section with cones and, oddly, fire extinguishers standing by, and the higher end porta potties, which would indicate movie money is involved. There was actually one car parked nearby with someone sleeping in it. The lack of cars makes the ride so much more enjoyable, but if the road is now covered in dirt I suppose it is a BWR trainng ground now.

I saw San Andreas this weekend. I won't ruin anything by mentioning my delight upon seeing an amalgamation of GMR and GRR in one of the first scenes of the movie. It got some Hollywood treatment because it involves a girl driving and texting, and for those familiar with the area, you'll need to suspend your sense of disbelief regarding the amount of oncoming traffic she encounters as well as her fictional cell phone reception up there

Dammit! I thought we had two car-free weeks of GMR coming up!

Flying back to LA tomorrow from Italy. Spent 6 days riding around Tuscany and my son demonstrated some serious mojo in the hills so I think he's ready for GMR on July 4. See you guys up there. I'll be the dude chasing my 12 yr old 90# son up that daggum hill.
