Awesome job.

You can definitely tell that the wind is whipping even on the podium, all the holes in the banner are completely open.

On to the race. I wanted to feel out the course on the first lap (mainly to get a feel for the 1st descent). Luckily, no one took off on the first lap and was able to descend with the lead group. On the second lap I realized my only play was to bank time on the climbs and hope the pack doesn't catch me, so when another rider took off at the beginning of the Pass, I went with him and we traded pulls up that climb and the next (Flynn Rd). Unfortunately on the descent I cooked a corner and he got a gap and took off. I chased but couldn't get close than 5 seconds and he'd take off. I cruised in alone at second place.

**** yeah man!! Super happy to see this.

Nice doggie too.

Thanks guys! It sounds silly, but its nice having a better looking USAC results page....hopefully I'll add a first to that.

It was intimidating driving 6 hours up north to race. NCNCA probably has the biggest road race calendar in the US and an 'economy' of climbers; you can actually upgrade via that path which creates a talent pool. In SoCal we don't really have that (all the 'skinny guys' are talented across the board).

I may come up for Winters; Its really up to the wife. She's been travelling for work every week.

Won on the regional track sprint championship then went to do one more race for fun and went down.

Umm, congrats I guess on the championship?

Didn't know you were a track sprinter. How do you manage to be so good at that and still good on the road?

I'm surprised you can even ride on the road and be that good. The pure sprinters spend more time in the gym and it seems that miles in the legs are actually harmful from what I've read. Do you mix Enduro and sprint events?

I love track sprinting but I don't have the genetics or the discipline. I just like to ride my bike too much.

45's still have some insanely talented dudes lining up though, same for 50's.

..
USAC has made cycling very broad, and IMO caused much of this. There is Freestyle BMX, as well as BMX winning. Add gravel, cx, fat tire, track MTB all with several disciplines that get the jersey and team ones and more jerseys by breaking up age and gender groups. So everyone is a winner, except the women that have to compete against ex-dudes. Fewer care to have one of 200+ NC jerseys. Some of the best masters I know are not in COS. Seems nobody on BF is. Fewer care.

USAC should remember who its customers are. Anyway - USAFA is one of the nicest courses in the world to race. A 1986 UCI Road Race course.

Bummer. I have seen benefits in improved aerodynamics from this. Something to look forward to, but you may need to break the other side.

I have an appointment next week with a shoulder specialist/surgeon. Given what I've read, I suspect the will want to do surgery to repair my clavicle.

In other news, I've gained about 10 pounds since Saturday despite not eating much. We're pretty much attributing it to all of the swelling.

Listen to the pro and consider non-surgical management.

Another A crit on the technical short course. I did a little bit better in terms of taking longer to get dropped and doing better in the corner. But ultimately I was dropped within about 8 minutes. I suck at cornering.
