Wouldn't it make more sense to curfew then at sunset than 10 pm? In December the sun is down by 4 pm here.

I suspect no one in Chicago is riding one of those things passed mid-October. Could be wrong.

This story was more interesting when I thought Ccooters was about banning sex toys. Or whatever Gwyneth Paltrow is doing to her vagina today -- jade eggs, steam, lots of money from GOOP.

Ban something because a few people were injured or killed... where's that "right to travel shall not be infringed" amendment?

By this logic they'll need to ban cycling and walking because those people keep getting hit by motor vehicles.

Here's the problem. One of these children's toys has no safety equipment (lights/reflectors). They're too unstable (one good crack/pothole and you endo, that is what happens with tiny wheels high-center-balanced as with a skateboard) to be ridden on city roads, and go to fast to be among pedtraffic on sidewalk....combine with idiots operating them and here we are.

A long time ago in a different century, 3-wheeled ATCs (All Terrain Cycles) were banned which led to the prominence of 4 wheeled ATVs.

https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-...651-story.html

Not sure of a way to make those scooters safer except maybe go to larger diameter wheels.

When I was younger, "cooter" didn't refer to a "scooter."

In any event, I think this ban in an unnatural interference with Darwinism.

I would look at a 250 Japanese motorcycle. You can get one that's pretty new, with low miles for a couple thousand or even less if you are patient.

When I got this one, it had 100 miles and was 3 years old, and I only paid 2000 cash.

They will go a lot longer with less trouble than most scooters. Whatever you do, don't buy a Chinese scooter--they are junk.

And don't get a Chinese junk. They're full of cooters.

This junk probably has a cooter as a dinghy.

The only reason I can think of getting a gasoline powered scooter over a small motorcycle is for someone that doesn't want to shift gears.

Otherwise, motorcycle for the win everytime, IMO.

My friends in the urban vintage motorcycle group I used to hang out with at times all viewed scooters as a disposable gateway drug into motorcycling.

I used to be an active member of the SOHC/4 Owners Club, we weren't too urban though.

I think some of you should click the link and see the kind of scooter they are referencing. A motorcycle isn't an alternative to this kind of scooter. It's a completely different animal.

I think that this thread is still hindered by those reading Electric Ccooters.

That was a great bike. It never let me down once, and it was super cheap and easy to ride and maintain. Unfortunately, it was totalled when I got hit by a car. I don't think you can go wrong with Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki or Yamaha.

One recommendation, though...Get a a bike that is made to do what you really will do with it. For example, don't get a racing style or off road bike if you just want to commute with it. Be realistic about what you will do with it and get one that does those things well--same advice applies for a bicycle, right?

If you check Craigslist often, you will find a good deal sooner or later. If you live up north, you might get some good end of season deals soon, at the dealer or on Craigslist. Good luck.

Stay away, you'll never know what you'll catch.
Just the other day I heard of a soldier falling off some Indonesian junk that's going round.
