1980 Motobecane Grand Jubilee

Found a black frame red headset Grand Jubilee with Vitus 172 tubing and Suntour Cyclone components throughout. Also comes with the period correct rear rack. Original saddle and grips. Overall, bike is in really nice condition with very few blemishes, paint looks great (at least based on the pictures).

Here’s the dilemma, I think the bike is a good deal at $150 (let me know your thoughts)...but it is almost 3 hours away. I’m always up for a casual day trip but honestly it would have to be for a great deal, not just a good one. Any thoughts?

Good deal. Not great deal.

This one is available to me about two hours away for $120. Seems clean. I'm not going after it.

I had one, an '80 wih vitus 172. The only full 172 bike I've owned, and would buy another in a heartbeat. It may not be as strong as 531, but it's every bit as light. I'm only 160 lbs, so it's perfect for me.

I sold mine for about $650, but it was really tricked out with a new Brooks, Suntour Cyclone, Suzue hubs and new rims. And the red/black paint was absolutely perfect.

My daughter bought a 1978 Mixte version(not as desirable) for $100 .It was a few years ago and the bike was well used but nicely maintained. It had the Cyclone derailleurs and it was upgraded to Campagnolo Record hubs laced with SS spokes to Mavic hard anodized wheels. She no longer rides the bike, but I keep it because it is very well made and the components are worth holding on to. Joe joesvintageroadbikes.wordpress
