Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The difference a year makes.

On November 24, it will have been a year since I broke my leg/ankle in 3 places. Needless to say it was pure hell, needing surgery and months to recover. I was really scared of not being able to walk properly, let alone ride a bike again. But thanks to a fine orthopedic surgeon and my loving wife, I was riding again 106 days after the injury. In fact i was able to ride my bike months before i was walking without any limp. This year i've ridden 1700 miles.

Congrats - that's awesome. Cycling is an incredible rehab sport.

Last October, I tore my Achilles and calf and destroyed my ankle playing basketball. I couldn't walk for 10 months, but I could ride after 5. I was obstinate about PT. Cycling was my only rehab.

Why may I ask, did you have a bad therapist?

No. It was inconvenient and time consuming.

I crashed badly a few years back and ended up with three screws in my left ankle - I love riding more than ever.

Congrats to the OP and here's to many more years of riding!
