I just noticed the below referenced parts that are located on the Right Shift lever. I have attached a PDF and 2 pics for reference. On the thumb paddle there is what is described as RH Main Lever Nipple Cap. There is also one on the Finger Paddle. They are items 3 & 4 in the PDF. Right below the clamp and in in the 2 pictures plus PDF is what can only be best described as a cable end guide. I've searched a bit but I cannot find any explanation as to what they would be for. Everything works fine, I was just wondering what they might be for. The brake levers I have are independent XTR levers and not exactly as the pdf shows.

You will often find some weirdness on Shimano shifters for integrating the flight deck computer. In this case I'm pretty sure it's for the XTR bar end remote shifter, it had two cables that ran into the right hand shift lever.

Thanks. That makes sense. But I can't figure out what the 2 nipple caps are covering up. They only seem to be covering up a hole and aren't aligned up with anything.

Bike forums is not cooperating at the moment, and I can't get that picture to post. If you can click through to it, the above image is the Shimano diagram for the remote shifter, and it kinda shows the cable attachment.
