Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Actually, in logical structures, inverse, converse and reverse all have different connotations. If A -> B, then inverse is B -> A, converse is (not A) -> (not B). and reverse is A !-> B. Or something like that. Been a while (jeez, i just realized how long) since i studied that stuff.

Just what we needed another waving thread!

Can we at least get chics on Cervelos wearing flip flops back?

I took two classes of formal logic, but having not used it much in almost 20 years, it's fading. The bit I remember is contrapositive (!B -> !A in your examples). However, as much as I do truly find this interesting, the strict logical uses of inverse and reverse don't rule the plain English uses, just as "or" in English is usually XOR in circuits.

Strava should add a "wave reply factor" to their route planning tool. Available to subscription users only.

This morning, three checkout lanes over, I noticed someone buying the same brand of flour as me so I gave a friendly wave to show some solidarity especially in times like this where your favorite brands of flour might not always be available.

But they stared straight ahead pretending not to see me. I hate arrogant and snobby Florian Bellanger wannabes like that; would it kill them to give a friendly wave? They give all bakers a bad name. I’m convinced this is why so many people are gluten free.

His Bob's Red Mill was out of stock, and he knew in his heart of hearts that you're a filthy King Arthur's man and scorned you out of spite.

Reminds me of thirty years ago when I had a Jeep CJ-7. This was back in the days when the new Jeep Wranglers were starting to sell like hotcakes, and it had always been traditional for Jeep owners to exchange waves. But I found out there was a pecking order. CJ owners were not to wave to Wrangler owners, under any circumstances! The Wrangler would be forever beneath the CJ in the pecking order. Of course its all a moot point now; Wranglers still sell like hotcakes but I haven't seen a CJ on the road in at least a decade. The rust virus was not kind to them.

Do I really explain that you're on the outside of a friendly tete-a-tete?

I had to walk 10 miles home once after my crank came loose on a new bike. It sucked and nobody stopped to help, so I decided not to let it happen to other people.

Being new to cycling after a twelve year layoff I'm sometimes reluctant to take my hands off the bars but I do say Hi.
