FRAME: 54cm (~21") 1982 Velo Sport Prestige in Toronto

https://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/bik/1268633574.html

Included: 54cm (~21") 1982 Velo Sport Prestige FRAME AND FORK ONLY.
Price: $125

The frame is made from Tange Mangaloy 2001 double butted tubing, it weighs 2415 grams (~5.3 pounds) [ref: 1]. It has Shimano ST horizontal forged rear drop-outs, the fork has Tange forged drop-outs. The frame does not include a headset or bottom bracket, but I do have some available on request. The Prestige was Velo Sport's second best offering, it came with a full Shimano 600 Arabesque group-set (not-included).

Nice old Trek - looks like a 730 based on the graphics and color scheme, but the head panel isn't maroon. If it is a 730, that's a 531 frame.

I notice a preponderance of good values on this thread in the Boston area. Why might this be? I'm thinking I could bunch a purchases up, if the timing is right, and drive up and pick up the bikes. Driving 200 miles isn't normally worth it to pick up a bike.

Agreed that Boston seems to be a great place to find great bikes recently. The problem is that they either get snatched up FAST, are the wrong size, or go for too much money. You will never find anything but department store crap at any of the MANY thrift stores -which are picked clean by the EMPLOYEES before anything cool ever sees the floor. Same goes for the local recycling centers (dumps).

If you see anything that you really like, PM me and I will try to take a look.

Now if someone would just pick this up and ship it to Little Darwin he'd almost have a matched set...

I noticed it in another thread... It would be a good spare, in my size too.

BTW - It looks too large for me, but here is an interesting posting:

what's with the recent trend in price hiking centurions?
this one for instance, I took a look at... wooow, overpriced.
https://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/bik/1267854548.html

it was a 70's ish centurion, 27" wheels.
at least I think it was around 70's or latest early 80's.

    Raleigh International - Campy w/Brooks - 60cm Frame - $280

    https://chicago.craigslist.org/nch/bik/1270246974.html

...Raleigh International from the 70's in great clean condition and upgraded Campy Components! (Bottom bracket and cranks). The bike rides real nicely and smooth! Super fast ! and just a nice ride! No work needed, just make it yours and take it out for a great ride! The frame has been professionally painted forest green but is still a beautiful bike!...

    Hello,

I am offering a circa 1980 French Motobecane Super Mirage in very nice shape for it's age. The rides is sweet and the paint is certainly above average as you can see from the photos. It's a tall bike for someone approximately 6'0 in height or taller. Standover height is apprx 34 7/8 ".
    Original Suntour components.

I put new tires and inner tubes on it last fall. Time to make some room in the garage.

    Thanks. Mark

Around here its a wretched situation - there's never really any good deals to be had. Everything is either big-box department store junk, with the very occasional newer bike for 1000+, and as a result anyone who has what could be regarded as a C&V bike probably takes a glance at the ads and decides "well if they can ask $100 for a kids bike and those fancy thingamajigs can bring $1000, then I'll ask $250 and see what happens"

Or something like that. I just don't think there's anything to be had around here, at least not what I'm interested in. That Centurion would probably have been a good bike for me (I noticed it had Shimano 600 levers, so maybe the rest of the components might have been 600) except for the fact it's at least 8cm too large (I'm 5-9, 5-10 with stumpy legs)

I never seem to have any money anyway

Around NYC you are seeing AMF, Sears, Kia, and other really low-end bikes with junk frames with asking prices in the $200 range. As you get into the suburbs you start seeing the $100 Peugeots, Raleighs and Miyatas. Some of these junk bike buyers should just head over to K-mart or Walmart and pick up something new. Even though some of the newer bikes aren't that stylish, the old junk bikes don't look that great either. Guess $200 isn't alot of money these days...at least judging by what you can get for it on CL.
