1964 Raliegh Sports 100% original
Hey guys.
so I'm interested in an appraisal on my 1964 raliegh sports. It has a couple light spots of rust but no structural damage. Everything on it is 100% orginal down to the Dunlap tires and the raliegh cotter pins.
It does need some work, the cotter pins need to be redone and the rear tire is cracked and needs replacement. I have not done these things yet because it's only original once.
I want to know what its value is as it is.
Would the value be greater if I do the repairs or if I leave it in original condition?
pics are from ad when I bought it a bit ago. I've cleaned it up a bit since then but these pics are a better representation than the ones I have of it looking good in front of coffee shops haha

I don't believe that saddle is original.
To me, that bike is in serviceable condition, but there is more rust than I would really like to see. When I see rust, it makes me think the bike should really have a full teardown and refurbishment with new grease & bearings, etc. Because of the condition, this is not going to attract collectors. I would just get rid of the old tires and advertise it with new ones. The average buyer will value that more than originality. You can keep the old ones and ask them if they want them.
Value depends a lot on where you live. Here in NYC I could probably get $150 for it, if it had rideable tires.

Either way I think you will get about the same price. I'd just make it rideable.

I don't think the seat is original.
What is the date on the hub?
For me I'd want to do the restore myself. Most buyers though would prefer it ready to ride.
Here in Ontario you could buy similar for about $150 CDN.

Here's an early 70's model that I sold in late 2011 for $115 that needed tubes, tires, and cables. And I was surprised how much interest I had in it.

Yes, it's nicer than the op's bike. Although none of the parts in particular had any kind of value. And the Brooks saddle was rough. I paid $15 for it so......and sold it in a week.

I had a red, and white Raleigh that was very similar to the OP's bike that I sold for $120, It was very, very clean though. Needed Tubes and Tires. I almost forgot about it it's been over ten years ago. It was newer. Like a 71' I think. Paid $8. Ah, the good ole' days.

The rear hub should have a date code... I'm not sure it is from 1964. The plastic shield on the shift trigger I think was also later by at least a few years.
Grips have been replaced too.

3 speed value is very location specific. In my area, you can't give them away. I picked up a really nice one for $12.50, even had fresh tires on it. I couldn't get a single offer for it so I eventually donated it to the co-op, and remembered again why I avoid 3 speed bikes.

Nice bike but definitely not '64. If you look at the "4" on the hub I'm quite sure you'll see it's a 9. This is based on raleigh script, pedals, tires , and shifter . Value really depends on market and time of year. I actually just put my '64 up for sale and its completely refurbished (hub completely disassembled and cleaned , new bearings and grease in BB, headset, front/rear hub, etc) and absolutely crickets. I agree with values mentioned.
