The envious e-bike rider
I was waiting at a traffic light when a redneck on an e-bike stopped next to me. He said, 'I got to get me one of them.' I wondered what I had he could possibly want. Perhaps he saw my puzzlement, because he said, 'A pedal bike - I'm getting lazy riding this.'

I ride my ebike for fitness. Pedaling my 70 pound fatty for 2 hours today at level 1 left me drained and burned over 1600 calories. That was averaging 15mph.
The best part about electric is the operator decides the balance between assist and legs. Analog bikes have to stay under 10mph (for me) to keep the heart rate down.

Took a month or two for me to learn how to push myself to get a workout equal to riding my non-boosted bikes--the Garmin system is invaluable for monitoring heartrate and aerobic/anaerobic output, for compare and contrast.
It's achievable by a combination of picking boost schemes and even warming up before turning on the system. IOW doing similar amount of work and going a lot faster doing it.
Have never ridden a C2 throttle e-bike and don't know what that experience might be like.

One can get as much a workout as one wants on an Ebike. Just like the difference when one takes the elevator or the stairs

I use my fs Emtb for climbs. On Sunday, I did 80 km with an ascent of 1,000 meters. and still had 50% battery. I like to believe that I used minimal motor and maximum muscle.

Riding eBikes exclusively for a few months, I was shocked at how hard hills are on an acoustic bike.
Also shocked how LIGHT any modern acoustic bike feels.

It seems like the person on the e-bike was expressing their interest in getting a regular pedal bike instead of their e-bike. E-bikes are equipped with electric assistance to make pedaling easier, so they may have felt that they were becoming too reliant on the electric assistance and wanted to switch to a traditional pedal bike for a more active riding experience. It's always interesting to have unexpected conversations with strangers while waiting at traffic lights!

I poke along at 12 mph and even though I ride cadence sensor bikes most of the time, that's fast enough in level 1 PAS that I do feel hills and headwinds. On my torque assist bike conversion, I only get about 40Watts out of the motor at those speeds. It's almost as much work as riding a regular bike.
I started riding my regular bike this summer after a layoff of several years and I was definitely way out of shape, I put over 500 miles on it while it was still warm, but a ten mile ride still is lot of work. My ebike miles are around 2300. Hoping to get lot more before snow falls.
