Educate me on Dawes models?

My buddy found one, and it's way too big for him. Supposedly it says Dawes, has forged drops with adjusters, and no model name. He says it has a clamped top tube cable housing. Color is black on the top, and fading? to gold on the bottom or rear. I don't think he was looking at it
as he was talking to me. Does anyone have a clue what model it might be? Pics by tonight
he said, I will post em when I get em.,,,,BD

Feel free to post your Dawes bikes. I'd LOVE to see them!!

For some reason I remember a black to red fade model, perhaps an Echelon ? There was also an Atlantis. If you don't get the correct answer you are looking for, I will talk to my friend who used to sell them when Dawes warehouse was located in Hamden, CT., near New Haven.

Hmm, then he may have been remembering incorrectly about the clamp on cable housing? 1985 would mean brazed on, especially with forged drops and 531, correct?,,,,BD

Not to mention the fade paint job, that simply wasn't done until the mid to late 80's?

198? Dawes Echelon, w/chocolate brown to gold fade paint, SR cranks, Suntour Vx derailleurs, Weinmann sidepulls (Tektro's now), Maillard hubs on Rigida AL 1320 rims, and Brooks Copper Professional that came with, Reynolds 531 double butted main triangle, straight gauge fork and rear....i absolutely love how this bike rides. but the lug work is kinda indifferent, and the paint ...i almost love....

That's GOT to be it. He picked it up at the flea market, so it's probably dirty and "looks" black. He said the rims were Rigida, the brakes were Weinmann sidepulls, and the RD was a VX. He already robbed the rims off of it, the dirty dog. Well, he needed them for his Paramount he said. I have a set of Mavics, or black Dura Ace hubs on Weinmann concaves, that will probably do it justice.,,,,BD

Thanks!!
