Michelin Pro 3 Race Tires
I've been looking to possibly buy these tires for my bike. Does anyone have any experience with these, or any other Michelin Bike tires? I know they make great car tires, but that is definitely not the same

For daily training I would go with Krylions instead of Pro3 Race tires. Both are very good tires, but Pro3 tires will not last very long and can more easily get punctures.

Great tires, ride well, tremendous grip. Cut and puncture easy, and wear out fast.
IMO (and a lot of others here), Continental GP4000s ride and grip almost as well, but last a LOT longer.

Well, I'll be the contrarian. I use them for everyday riding on my road bike. Rear of current set has about 1000 miles on it, one flat (barely punctured belts, easily patched tube in a few minutes) and showing some flattening of center. Front previous to this one had over 5k miles on it, no punctures or significant cuts. Replaced just to keep a new tire on front wheel. Roads are mostly hot mix and smooth. Some chip and seal, not too much. I ride 18-20 solo, 22-25 max in a pace line. No heavy braking. I did rub down to the tread on the previous rear during an emergency stop that locked the wheel on dry pavement.
They're a lively, responsive tire. Max pressure is 116; I run at 100-105 rear and 95-100 front. I weigh about 170. I've got 25k+ miles on my Bianchi (report posted elsewhere on forum); have tried a variety of Vittorias, Krylion, and Vred Tricomps. Only one I'd use other than PR3's is the Tricomp.
I've been on more than a few rides where others puncture, I don't. Any tire will cut as it wears or hits something really bad.
All that being said, I've seen some great prices on Tricomps on biketiresdirect.com.
Not too hard to mount on Campy Vento's - when new I use a tire lever on about 6 inches of the circumference to seat the bead, less than 2 or 3 inches if that (seated it by hand after fixing the aforementioned puncture) after some use loosens them up.
I note the OP is riding a Specialized Allez. One of our crowd rides one and flatted his original front tire (tube failed at stem, I changed his tire to show him know) and although a wire bead, that was the easiest, fastest tire off and on to replace the tube. Off by hand and back on same way, very fast and easy on my 62 (at the time) year old somewhat arthritic fingers. :-) I'd think about those tires for that reason, given that over the road flats are inevitable.

I got a set and used them to train in central park.
prior to them, i hadn't gotten a single flat in over 4000 miles of riding.
with them, i got 2 flats in a week, and they were sliced to hell. i could see through the rubber.
so i thought that it might be just a bad week, so i replaced them.
same thing a few weeks later.
i use conti gp4ks now, almost never a flat.

Love 'em.
Seriously, they don't flat any more easily than any other high performance tires. Wear fast? Come on, If you cannot afford $90 bucks every three or four thousand miles, you're in the wrong sport. Why would you scrimp on that [I]tiny[I] part of your bike that is in contact with the road?

They are a very nice tire, if you can find them for $40 or so. Probikit very occasionally has them for reasonable
prices. They do wear out a bit faster, but if you ride a lot above 20mph, you will like them. They were OEM
on our tandem and lasted about 1500 mi on the rear, 2500 on the front. Tandems are not tire or chain
friendly however. On singles about 2500 or so on the rear, unclear on front.

I don't care that the PR3s wear out a bit quick because you can always pick them up for stupid cheap prices at PBK sales.

I have gone thru 2 of them in the last 3 months. I love the tires but have moved to a more puncture resistant tire. Both tires were torn by something sharp and developed a gap. I can't afford to ride these.

I didn't have any flats with mine but they wore out more quickly than the Krylions I had before or the Vittoria Diamante II that I'm using now. They had delaminating cracks in them and the rear had some serious patches of thread showing.

Haven't had a flat in 3 years of running them. I get about 1500 miles from a set, sometimes more. Love the way they handle.

Also, now that Pro4Races are out (And with 4 levels of flat protection /wear rate / grip, might I add) I'm curious how they'll perform, and if the P3Rs will come down in price.

yea man, look, they're meant to be super high performance tires.
which means softer compound, which means they'll flat more easily and get cut up more.
they were great when they weren't flatting. no doubt that they're a fast, grippy tire.
as someone who doesn't keep a "race only" wheelset, i found the Conti GP4000S to be a better mix of performance & durability.
as they say, YMMV.

I've got about 1200 miles on a set and they look like they've gone through a cheese grater. I've only had one flat though.

I don't race but if if I did, and if I raced on clinchers, I would use these as my race tires.
Since I don't race, I stick with the BF-approved Continental GP4000s. Probably better balance of flat protection and wear.
But go ahead and try them, I suspect you will like the performance.
As indicated you can generally get them much cheaper from PBK or other UK online sites.

I love mine, they're fast and grip well. No flats...yet. Not sure how many miles on them, but they are showing some signs of wear which is expected for a higher end tire. I'd buy another pair.

super grippy tires, fast wearing, very short shelf life, shows signs of cracking and hardening within a year, prone to punctures and cuts easily. This is a race day tire.

I love them. I just changed the back at 2K. I crit, road race, and train on them in spring thru fall, then I put on the Conti 4000s for winter. Until prices on these two tires or others change, I will run until tackled with both sets!
