Only one way you're going to find out for sure- try it for yourself. Everyone has different leg strength, cardio conditioning, anaerobic thresholds, and mental attitude.

anyone from ny ride on manhattan bridge daily and has tried a 48/14 gear ratio. I like to know what 48/14 feels like climbing on the bridge i am about to changed to single speed from 48/16. Thanks.

48/14 is a 14% higher gear ratio than 48/16. Try it in your 48/16 gear. If you're okay with it, then you'll probably be okay with the 48/14 single speed. It will be more difficult at first, but you'll get used to it in no time.

Good golly. 48/14 would be straight-up "HTFU territory" for me to climb the Manhattan bridge. That's about the tallest gear I pull on the flat.

what is your normal gear for riding up Manhattan bridge?? u can wait till you get to the slope part of bridge down hill and pull on that gear to blow away all those who are riding slower. i'm even thinking about going to 48/12 if not definitely 48/13.
