I have a CycleOps Jet Fluid Pro trainer and am thinking of setting it up with a dedicated wheel. I have recently bought a new road bike and swapped out the stock wheels so I have a spare. Can you please help with a few of my concerns, especially since we have multiple bikes at home?

1) 2 bikes have 11-speed Shimano 105 derailleurs, one long-cage and the other short-cage. Their cassettes are 11-32 and 11-28 respectively. What cassette should I put on the trainer so that both bikes can use the same rear trainer wheel? Something cheap would be nice.

2) One bike has 10-speed Ultegra, 11-25 cassette. I take it that this bike is out of luck in terms of 11-speed cassette compatibility on the trainer?

3) Is it really worth it to go to have a dedicated trainer wheel? I haven't used the trainer much yet, but I haven't noticed any major wear and tear on my current bike's tires due to the trainer.

4) Would expensive wheels be damaged if used on the trainer? (I am using the manufacturer-supplied steel skewer for the trainer).

Pick 1 , since 11 is packed in to the space formerly occupied by 10,9,8.. Id get the cheaper cassette. (and a separate chain) and use the corresponding bik.
Maybe just get a bike to leave on the trainer at the cost of an expensive wheel (dripping Sweat is salty , somewhat corrosive on your stuff, under you)

Shimano 11 speed cassette bodies are longer than the previous 8,9,10 speed standard. your 11 speed wheels can accept a 10 speed cassette with an additional spacer, but 10 speed wheels cannot handle an 11 speed cassette.

Many tire manufacturers offer tires specifically designed for use on a trainer. They offer longer wear, quieter operation and less slippage than using a regular road tire on your trainer

Foam 'Captive Air' no flat tires have a pretty High rolling resistance .. If you want a Hard Workout they would be adding that ..
