Selle San Marco redux classic saddles

It appears that Selle San Marco is reproducing the Rolls, Regal, and Concor saddles in a variety of colors (black Rino, honey, white, etc). Has anyone tried these or have seen them in the flesh? Right now, probikekit has the rolls in Rino leather for $58. I’m thinking of getting a few of these saddles to adorn my cv Italian bikes rather then try to make some busted worn old SSM saddle go a few more miles past it’s prime. Thoughts?

I must admit to having no first hand knowledge of the San Marco products, -- but my reproduction Turbo's are spot on so far --- They supposedly made them with both real leather and vegan leather , -- not sure which ones I have

I use the repro and the original Regals.

Both wear just fine.

The Regal is my saddle of choice, and the new reproduction saddles are very nice.

The Rolls is nice too. I prefer them to anything Brooks makes.

I have a Rolls Rino and a Smooth Regale. I like the fit of the Regale a little better, but the Rolls looks so damn beautiful.

I put my old worn out Regale on my commuter - scuffed up but still fits well.

Concor Superleggera here, but mine are both the old ones.

Wasn't there a thread about the repops recently? I thought that some differences were picked up between them.

I have a new Selle Rolls. Too new to rate. Just purchased the Royale Gel. It may be the most comfortable saddle I've owned. Too cold to tell if the screened air tunnel to keep your junk cool works

I have a re-release Ti railed Rolls and an early re-release if the Concor. The Concor seems to be just a bit more padded with what seems to be also better quality foam material (feels denser but still soft) than the one I had in the mid 80's, so quite a bit more comfortable out of the box. The suede leather cover does not look as high quality (a much coarser texture suede) though than the fine velvety suede leather on the Concor I had in the 80's. But they all wear down to smooth leather anyway, after some miles.....
BTW, they cheaped out on the traditional stamped on labels on the Concord sides. The new ones only have it on one side (right). Kind of a silly area for Concor to save production cost, as the side labels make them easy to quickly identify as the real thing and not the cheaper, lower quality copies from other smaller companies, mostly from Asia.
The Ti Rolls on the other hand is virtually identical to the originals. Feels a bit flatter across the back of the saddle, compared to my Turbos, but I think, just as comfortable.
The also sell perforated versions of these saddles, which is nice, cause NOS perforated ones cost a mint these days. Only thing I do not like about the new perforated ones is the perforation pattern/spacing looks different/odd compared to the ones on the originals. Somehow looks too even and perfect. The holes look a bit smaller too. The old ones had that look where the perforation are stretched out and distorted a bit as the leather was stretched across the contours of the saddle. There's much less of this effect on the new saddles.

I've used Rolls saddles since the 1980s, and bought a few when they became unfashionable (can you imagine ?), I have them in a number of different finishes, including a very rare one in dark green leather.

The new titanium railed one looks good.

Rolls on the racers, Brookes on the tourers, Cinelli OR on the MTB.

I went ahead and purchased a white Selle San Marco Rolls from PBK for the Pinarello Gavia. The white will match the lettering and handlebar tape. The wider size and flatter shape of the Marco should be sufficiently comfortable for me.

I installed a NOS yellow suede Selle San Marco Concor on a 1976ish De Rosa earlier this year. The bike came with a used brown Concor, the yellow replacement matched the lettering and handlebar tape on that bike. I was concerned that the Concor would sacrifice comfort while winning a few style points. However the unique shape of the Concor is comfortable on a bike with some saddle-to-handlebar drop. I completed a 4 hour ride on Friday and the Concor provided sufficient comfort.

Did they stop making them? I bought a Regal new at least 5 years ago, so if they're repros, they've been around at least that long.

The Rolls is my saddle of choice. I have 3 of them (originals). Very comfortable even after many hours of riding.

Maybe it's in my head, but I do think the older ones are a little more comfy and a bit more compliant.

Not in the case of the re-issued Concor Supercorsa. My 80's Concor Supercorsa definitely had stiffer/harder padding and maybe stiffer shell too.

Prehaps a Stupid Question (I seem to have an abundance of those).

What's the easiest way to tell if you have a new release, or an original?

I have 3 and until this Thread really hadn't put it to any thought.

Would anyone care to comment on how a Rolls compares to a Turbo? Never tried one. I've ridden Turbos forever, as well as their predecessor the RS, and they fit me well. Was thinking of trying a Rolls at some point. The Rolls looks outwardly similar to a Turbo: fairly flat top lengthwise, and a gradually tapered profile. Is padding thickness about the same? I don't like thick padding.

Any sign of synthetic leather (Lorica) will mean it's new release. Same goes for micro fiber covers. These saddles are nicknamed "Vegan" saddles. For Concors, the new release have the brand stamped only on one side (the drive side), plus the logo at the back end is a little different from what the old ones had. I Don't quite remember, but I think it has to do with the tri-color bands on one end of the brand name. The Rolls new release will be harder to spot. As I did not notice anything different between the old and new ones. The old Ti version of the Rolls had silver and grey finished metal plates on the back instead of gold and I think it had the word "titanium" printed on them. The re-released Ti railed Rolls I have looks just like a regular Rolls with the white leather cover and gold metal accents..
Don't know about the Regal as I never had any new or old ones. At a glance, the new ones look ident8cal to the old ones.
As I also noted, the re-release saddles with perforated covers have something weird/different going on with their perforation spacing/pattern. Hard to describe, but to me, they look "too perfect".
Not sure, but I don't think they re-released any "gel" padded versions of any of these saddles.....so far.

As I noted the Rolls feels flatter, slightly wider at the back. The Turbo seems to be slightly more rounded at the corners and edges. I find the Turbo to be more comfortable than the Rolls, but not that much. Maybe I'm just really used to riding Turbos (and Concors) through the years, unlike the Rolls which I only hot my first one, early this year.

I bought a rolls, concor, and regal from pro bike, so I will let you all know when they come in and take some comparison photos of the rolls at least.

The olive green Regale would also look great on your bikes. I added a Rolls Brown Chamois on my 86 Masi and its looks and rides great.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll probably try a Rolls at some point. A little flatter would be OK. Concors didn't work for me at all, BITD. The dolphin shape is torture.

I'd kind of like to find a modern saddle that works too someday, but so far I've struck out. Plus most of them are totally hideous to look at.
