Tell me about the "Pasadena Ride". Once in a blue moon or some regular thing? It would be a 1200 mile drive for me, but I do get down in that neck of the woods from time to time.

Tommasini Diamante

This may not be for the faint of heart. Purists beware. This may cause severe reactions. I've finished my build of my Diamante. Here we go.
Euclid long cage, Euclid FD, Veloce triple, 9 speed Veloce cassette, 9 sp Ergo shifters, Record Headset. Shimano cable stops, Campy cable & housing.
I have ridden 20 miles since completing, up the steepest hills I can find. I know its a mash-up but this bike rides like a dream; strong, fast, capable and stable. Here are some pics.

Agreed.

Creative, interesting build, for sure.

After blowing up my knee two weeks ago in Moab, I'll be considering triples or compacts for most of my bikes.

I just can't push gears the way I used to.....

At 70, I’m ready to take all the help I can get. No way am I ready for an e-bike, but triple sure flattens out those hills. Besides that this bike flies, descends like a bat and corners like a rat on rails. Yeah, we got a lot of miles left in us.

I appreciate this forum, for it certainly has a knowledgeable base of fans, and some great bikes. I'm currently trying to build up my blue Tommasini and I have a red Tommasini on the way, so I'm looking for bikes with late 80's\early 90's parts. Something on the line of Super Prestige if possible. Specifically, rims. I'm not sure what kind of rims to use. Recently, I purchased a pair of Mavic Open Pros, 36h, in silver, and I wanted to match it with a pair of Dura Ace 7700 hubs. I know most of the Tommasinis, especially the more vintage ones are with Campagnolo. So, my goal is to try to make a modern bike with a vintage feel using Shimano Dura Ace. Anyone out there with Tommasinis and Dura Ace equipment? Thanks!

It's a Velocista, limited production model in, I think, 1988. Made of Columbus MAX tubing.

Rebuilt my December '89 Super Prestige with 8 speed Croce d'Aune.

Full 1991 Campagnolo Croce d’Aune groupset, as follows:

Crankset - Croce d’Aune 170 52/42
Bottom bracket - Croce d’Aune
Shifters - 3rd generation Record Syncro downtube shifters (1996)
Front derailleur - Croce d’Aune
Rear derailleur - Croce d’Aune slant parallelogram
Brake levers - Croce d’Aune Power Grade
Brake calipers - Croce d’Aune Delta brakes
Seatpost - Croce d’Aune
Quick releases - Croce d’Aune
Hubs - Croce d’Aune 8 speed 36 hole
Cassette - C-Record 8 speed pre-hyperdrive 13-21
Rims - FIR EA50 semi-aero profile
Tyres - Veloxflex Master gum sided 700 x 23c clincher

Only problem is, it's really too small for me... I'm finding it hard to get down onto the bars. Used to a taller frame.

You had me at Shimano ergo cable adapters .. Couldnt it have been Campagnolo as well??? lolll.

On the other hand, your bike is a beauty. The paint scheme is simple, clean, and really gives it that extra exclusive feeling. As in you probably won't see many of these on the road. Good stuff!

Hello Everyone, I've been following this thread for a few years, but never posted! I want to add the 'serial' numbers of the Tommos I have, in the hope that it helps.

Super Prestige, marble Pearl white,(tubing decal gone, but I think SLX) Air fork, hidden top tube cable routing, BB markings 190 711 I've dated her as late 80s only.

Super Prestige, marble blue, (no tubing decal) Air fork, hidden top tube cable routing, BB markings 76 121 I've dated her as late 80s only.

Super Prestige, marble Pearl white, SLX tubing, Air fork, hidden top tube cable routing, BB markings 711 AF I've dated her as late 80s only.

Tommasini Pista, marble Pearl white, SPX tubing, straight crown fork, no BB markings other than Cinelli (presumably the shell) I've dated her as early 80s only.

Super Prestige, marble red, Oria 0.0 tubing, Air fork, hidden top tube cable routing, BB markings 85 US MR Barbara dated this one as 1985. I bought her in South Africa in the late 80s (87/88 I think), but unusual because of the US stamp!

Can anyone give me insight into the numbers???

Wow, you have a hell of a collection! Here's what I concluded so far - when there is a 2-number combo, usually it's consistent with year-month, so your marble blue ('76') could be July 1987. And, when there is both a 2-number combo and a 3 number combo, the 3-number combo seems to mean something else (and I cannot see a pattern for these 3-number combos). I think your marble red is actually made May 1988, which is consistent with the marble paint style not being introduced until 1987.

When there is only a 3-number combo, or two 3-number combos, usually it seems consistent with year-month-month, so the two of yours with '711' could be Nov. 1987 (with the first marble white having one of those mystery 3-number combos: '190').

When letters are present, they often appear consistent with the paint style or color (e.g., MR for marble rosa, B for blue). Your bike with 'AF' is another head scratcher, while your red marble bike fits nicely.

I have seen a couple of bikes that I think were sold in Europe but were stamped with 'US'. Not common, and they may have been bought in the US and moved with their owner overseas, though yours seems to go against that latter possibility. And of course there are mid-80s and late-80s Tommasinis sold in the US that didn't have the 'US' stamping, though many (most?) seem to.

Do you have photos of them anywhere? I'd love to know if they have pump pegs, how many sets of bottle bosses, what kind of rear brake bridge, lugs, seat stay caps, etc.
