Brought it to the basement to clean . . .

Too cold these days in Chicago. Brought it to the basement to clean, winterize and put up in the bike trainer.

I put my "winter kit" back on my Roam. I don't commute with it, but I do try to get out often, even if the roads are wet or slushy. This time of year, I can't be as selective about when I ride as I can in the summer. So it's now wearing its stock Crosscut 38mm tires, a set of Bike Planet Cascadia fenders, front and rear lights, and a 12-36 cassette.

I've had various wheels and tires on this bike, including 50-622 Schwalbe Hurricanes on the stock wheels, and 52-584 Vittoria Mezcals and 47-584 Vittoria Terreno Zeros on a set of 650b wheels. But it really does ride nice with the stock wheels and tires. Smooth and quiet with a nice balance.

check out the newest thing-o i got for my bike this morning ...

has three modes: all on, all flashing in unison, all flashing in a row (as seen). well, four modes if you count off. it runs on disposable batteries, which maybe sucks depending on how long they last.

couldn't help it. when i saw the rear fender had a proprietary notch to attach some gadget, i had to put a gadget there. you can never have too many lights. especially taillights. got three on this bike now.

only $15, despite being from botanger or however you say that word which translates to "overpriced accessories."

Its truly sad to see a once proud brand name becoming Trek accessories. Bontrager once made some of the most desirable steel hardtails BITD out of his shop in Santa Cruz, CA. Once known as "Uncle Grumpy," he wrote many rants against oversize stuff and marketing-driven crap on bikes, stuff that he now has his name all over.

I bought a hybrid yesterday

2019 Rocky Mountain RC 30 Performance. Have to wait a few months before I can ride it, but I can upgrade some components like the tires. It comes with Maxxis Detonator 700 x 28c tires and I'd like to upgrade these to something wider...maybe 35 or 38.

Threw on Shimano SRD pedals and Raceface grips onto my C'dale Quick 5. Wondering what else I should do to make this bike better...

Nothing yet today but when I go home I am putting on a new L.E.D. headlamp.
The last one died during the Winter. Best buck fifty I ever spent though.😉
My rear light is still good. Maybe because it is under the seat.🤗

1) Replaced the crankset and bottom bracket. Had a good workout to pull the left crank arm off the old square taper set, the thing was like welded to the spindle. Thankfully I won't have to deal with such nuisances in rhe future - the new crankset is XT Hollowtech II.
2) Replaced the chain and cassette.
3) Cleaned, lubed and readjusted both derailleurs.
4) Replaced rear tube, as it had developed a slow leak. Turns out it had started cracking, apparently low quality rubber.
5) Washed everything squeaky clean, lubed the bits that needed it.

Before I can effectively do any of ^ that stuff - needed a bike repair stand. Just decided on the Topeak Prep Stand Elite. On it's way from Texas.

Made a Bluetooth Speaker Holder

I’d show a pic, but apparently I don’t have those Privileges yet since I’m a newbie..... you’ll just have to imagine it in your head.

Blue tooth speaker holder

I pounded a bottle holder out on my anvil and reshaped it for my blue tooth speaker. Works great!

New bike 8 days ago. After 60 miles, finally took off the various CYA stickers and one admittedly small LBS advert.

I pumped up the tires and dusted off the Norco. It's been a long winter and this virus has been draining. If the weather co-operates I'll be going for a ride this wknd......

Haven't done too much to my bike over the winter but here in the last two days I added a new CatEye Padrone Digital wireless computer along with a new Crane Creek 2020 version Thudbuster G4 suspension seat post and a new set of Kenda Kwick7 27.5 x 2.25 tires to my Specialized Roll. Really happy with how everything turned out so now it's take it out and ride it. Looking forward to riding the next few days as the weather is starting to get nicer every day.

Gave the Metrix some carbon luv. Thoughts anyone on leaving or altogether removing the Fulcrum decals from the rims?

Re-attached and torqued the stock cassette to the hub of the Fulcrum.

Looks great! What did those wheels run? I threw some chinese SuperTeam wheels on my Allez road bike, but I was thinking about doing some carbons on my Metrix too. I have some Hunts coming for the road bike, maybe I will go through the trouble of converting the SuperTeams to disc...

Thanks! I believe that the wheelset was around $800 US at the time when I placed the order with the UK bike retailer. With all that was going on in the global market they ended up taking a month to arrive but shipping was gratis and duty surprisingly was zilch, nada. They were pretty much plug and play out of the box with the exception that they sported 6 bolt disc hubs in comparison to the center lock versions on the Metrix hubs. I also decided to pair them with Conti Duraskin GP 4 seasons which I think are slightly more versatile and will likely offer up superior tear/puncture resistance over the stock Duranos which will help as I'll be doing mostly out-of-town rides. The final tasks involved a thorough cleaning of the drive train as well as popping a quick link into the chain and a proper realignment of both front and rear disc brakes.

I'm still sitting on the fence with regards to the decals. I much prefer an overall austere look to the bike but perhaps given time I'll get used to them. Next up, a new bar for the cockpit.

What type of handlebars do you use? Are the aero bars included or are they attached?
