2020 - Your Touring Plans = Where Are You Going?
Where are you touring in 2020? Got any exciting plans? Will it be a long tour, short tour, or something in between? Will it be to a place you've been before, or somewhere new? Solo or with others?
Tell us about your plans ... tell us about your tours.
And if it is a short tour, don't forget to post a brief ride report in the Short Tours thread.

Easily Led Astray
When I first retired in 2018, I started a cross country tour from Boston to my home in Santa Rosa, CA. Just before I left, I changed my front bars from the Surly standard drop bar to a Jones H-Bar. This proved to be a big mistake for me. While many others use and love the Jones H-Bar, they caused numbness in my hands that became more severe as the days and miles passes. I finally had to suspend my ride in Dayton, OH as I could no longer make my hands work well enough to sign my name, let alone fix a flat or any other simple maintenance. I spent the rest of that summer off the bike waiting for the feeling to return to my hands. In the fall, when my hands worked again, I changed everything back to drop bars. No more hand numbness from riding.
Summer 2019 was spent in a three month bike tour with my wife around France (mostly). Summer 2020, I plan to return to Dayton and pick up where I left off in 2018 and continue heading West. Unfortunately, due to other commitments, I don't think I'll have enough time to complete the route this year either. If I get to Pueblo, CO, I'll be happy. I can pick the route up there at a later date.

A few short tours already planned:
- Five days from Venice FL to Jacksonville and then Amtrak back to Washington DC and biking back home to Maryland.
- Erie Canal Towpath trail - Xmas present from my daughter was a gift card at a hotel on the trail, will plan it out soon.

I sometimes get a numb left arm after several hours on the bike, but i attribute that to a crash, dislocated shoulder and the two surgeries that followed. Feeling comes back within minutes after getting off the bike with no long term problems. I use drop bars.

Tentatively Selkirk Loop in Northern Idaho, NE Washington State and British Columbia. Take Amtrak to Sandpoint Idaho and do the loop, return home on Amtrak. The kind of distance that could be done in a week, but for two retired guys that would like to enjoy it, might take two weeks instead. Discussing that possible trip with a friend that I have done several other tours with. If that trip does not happen, I might try a solo trip elsewhere.
REVISION (7 Apr 2020) - Postponed a year or more.
***
2019 - Five week solo tour in Canadian Maritimes.
2018 - A week long van supported bike trip in Big Bend TX area.
2017 - Two week bike tour in Florida Everglades and Keys.
2016 - Month long solo bike tour in Iceland.
2015 - Week long mountain biking trip on Maah Daah Hey bike trail while car camping in the campsites along the trail.
2014 - Pacific Coast, Astoria to San Fransisco self supported, and a vehicle supported mountain bike ride on White Rim Trail in Canyonlands.
Before that, a few others like GAP and C&O, Katy, George S Mickelson, etc.

That is some absolutely gorgeous country! I've seen much of it but from a car. My grandparents farm was south of Spokane, WA but we would take different routes each summer to go see them so I've had a chance to see the beauty this area offers.

In early May we are flying into Glasgow and biking west to Oban. Then taking a ferry to the Outer Hebridies and then biking north the length of the Hebridies with a few ferries in between. Then take a ferry to Ullapool and bike East to Inverness. Unfortunately, at this point I think we will be running out of time so we will most likely take the train from Inverness back to Glasgow and then fly back home.

My plans aren't set yet this would be the third part of my multi year across the USA tour.
Part 1 in 2018 I rode from Portland, Maine to Columbus, Ohio.
Part 2 in 2019 I rode from La Crosse, Wisconsin to Xenia, Ohio
Tentatively
Part 3 in 2020 I would ride from La Crosse, Wisconsin to Mt. Rushmore, but I'm also planning on getting married and those plans are also not set yet so as the year unfolds I will see what fits into my summer.

MA guy here, may try to do some of the BCT southern sections. That's the Bay circuit trail, starts in KIngston, goes to Salisbury MA, 220 miles or so, 75% or so off road. Or the Northern section of the XVT. Pretty cool loop in VT. A giant figure 8 the length of the state. I'm told there is "some " climbing.

We are going to visit South-Korea for four weeks (September/October), we thought that after a few years of more 'hardcore' cycling (Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Mongolia)
we have earned the right to use some tarmac again.
The route is yet in the planning stage, so if anyone has some extra info: please, do tell!

While I try to make up my mind, I’ve decided on a short tour, down to Tucson. I’m in Phoenix now (Scottsdale actually), so it’s not too far at all. 😎

Continuing my Capitol to Capitol "loop"
Start in Albany, NY, Erie Canal Towpath to Buffalo,
South shore of Lake Erie to Erie, PA,
Pittsburgh Spur of the Underground Railroad,
GAP, C&0 to Washington, DC,
Train to NYC,
Back to Burlington VT.
Last year made it to Buffalo. Plan is to take a rent car from Burlington airport to Buffalo or Niagara Falls Airport and pick up

May be of interest to you:

Camped every night except in Hyde Park, where there is a relatively inexpensive, bike-friendly hotel. There is camping off route up Rte. 9 at Staatsburg. Mills Norrie State Park. Route does involve some pretty benign dirt in both MA and VT.

Thank you, Indy, it certainly does. Was thinking of NY Bike Route 9 and then Champlain bikeways. What is the reason for your Easterly foray into VT?

Hoping to do a short tour here in Nova Scotia. A loop from our home in Halifax. Still figuring out the specifics but have a rough plan.

I was planning on touring in Idaho, but a family reunion conflicted with that. Instead, I decided to plan a trip that included a weekend stop at my 35th high school reunion in Deerfield, MA. I also have some friends who have a place in Burlington. Had dinner with them one night. St. Albans was a logical starting point since I could ride a short distance from my house in Philly and take the train up there without having to box the bike. I friend of mine rode the train up there with me and did his own solo, credit card tour to his county place way outside Philly.

Depending on funds and time,
Oregon Coast, Jasper-Calgary, Ontario trails, or the Kettle Valley Rail Trail.
I'm itching for a good tour.
I tried getting some of my friends into it, but they don't have more than a day to spare, so I'll just be going alone again.
