Mini Velo: Tiny tires take over OR penicillin should clear that right up. You decide!

Haha so I was looking at mini velos due to the thread about emerging trends..yah.

Anyways i found what looks like a mini velo pursuit bike for 277 and free shipping from rakuten.com (https://en.item.rakuten.com/trendone/10036145/)

Will one of you with a real job buy one so we can talk about it? haha

Haha i was hoping this could be a thread to discuss the intriguing/disturbing mini velo phenomena, and most of all, post pictures.

They're now available in the states... though not from the big brands. They are light fun and cute and the small wheels rotate fast and let you dart in and out of urban traffic. Plus, for an apartment dweller, they're easily ported up and down stairs and can be tucked away in the corner.

Mini velos are SO COOL because you can put training wheels on them; great for the adult who missed out on his/ her childhood.

These mini velos remind me of the short-lived BMX F-1 fad from 1987.

I have a Schwinn Qualifier. Nice bike and no one really saw at the time the benefits of a small wheel bike for practical transportation.

The geometry on the older Haro Dart looks a whole lot more balance than the mini velo from the OP's link. All the weight looks like will rest on the rear wheel while the Haro looks like the weight would be more evenly distributed b/c of the longer chainstay. The Haro geometry just looks right to me versus the newer mini velo. The new mini velos looks like they are good only for doing wheelies.

I started looking into these, too. The small wheels are supposed to make these things really twitchy - not something you'd want to tour on, but great for quick maneuvering in the city.

It could be an illusion. The F1s are very low. An adult of normal stature would need an absurdly tall seatpost and stem to get the fit of the Haro Dart to match the extended headtube and seatube of a mini velo. Another foot of extension of the saddle and bars and the overall proportions would shift the weight significantly towards the rear wheel.

Agreed. On My Schwinn Qualifier I didn't need a very tall seatpost but I needed an
apehanger bar to compensate for the low frame and aggro geometry.

This is just gorgeous. Dunno about the coaster brake, but even that could be fun, or changed.

I have been seriously been considering the bigshot, especially since I've read the fram is great, and it has horizontal dropouts. I would definitely want to upgrade, and am seriously considering pulling the trigger as I will be moving to a micro studio soon, and I think this would be a great city bike.

I had a SA S2c hub built to a 451 rim for my Raleigh Folder. I am thinking about the bigshot also and transferring the wheel to it.

I see mini velo bikes all over the place, every day and have for about the last two years. I still think they look ****ing silly.
