Can I use non-aero brake lever hoods for aero brake levers?

These are the same model as the levers whose hoods I am hoping to replace. Any google search for Aero Dia-Compe Grand Compe Brake lever Hoods returns results for non-aero hoods. I'm further confused by this https://velo-orange.com/products/dia...4-brake-levers, which says the hoods fit non-aero Dia-Compe and Grand-Compe, is Grand-Compe simply the aero design of the "non-aero Dia-Compe" or is it a non-aero variant of the model I have? Could I simply buy a non-aero hood, as the only difference to me seems to be a hole on the top of the lever for the housing and cable? Thanks for your help.

Don’t settle for non-aero, go to eBay and search Dia Compe Gran Compe Aero Hoods.

I don't know of any instance where a non-aero brake lever hood will fit an aero brake lever hood properly. Best to search for NOS or a compatible type to the brake lever you're using.

Cheers

This may sound ridiculous, but even in trying to figure out what I am using for Brake Levers I am having difficulty. I am certain they are an aero model, I thought too that they were Dia-Compe Gran Compe, as on the original brake lever hood the manufacturer's name 'Dia-Compe' is visible and on the brake lever itself are the letters A-GC. What makes me doubt my original thought was that I just bought a pair of brake lever hoods off ebay that fit precisely my criteria and they don't fit. I've posted a picture below of the brake lever's I am using, the original black rubber hoods, and one of the pair of brown ones I just bought, which doesn't fit the lever. I was aware of the difference in shape between the two hoods before purchasing. That may have been stupid, but I thought it was a difference only in exterior shape and that the hood would fit given that it satisfied everything on paper.

Returning to Ebay and searching again for "Dia Compe Gran Compe Aero Hoods", there are some results that closer resemble the original black hoods I looked to replace, however there are also results identical to the brown ones I just bought. How I am supposed to distinguish between which Dia Compe Gran Compe Aero Hoods will fit my levers, other than visually, by the corresponding photograph? Are there features of my brake levers I have yet to identify that would help my finally choose the right hoods without guessing?

What a pathetic problem, thanks for help!

Submitted a new response, I'm having trouble understanding what hoods will fit my lever, bought a pair of Dia-Compe Gran Compe Aero Hoods and can't get them on.

Dia Compe put out various models of the Gran Compe in aero and non-aero brake levers.

I think(?) your brakes are AGC-250 with the squared brake hoods. I’m not certain of the model as the online info is all over the place. I have a set of brakes just like yours that only say Gran Compe on the clamp band. The hoods on mine look just like the black one.

The AGC-251 have an A on the side and the hoods are more streamlined. The hoods you bought are Gran Compe but not your model. Probably for AGC-251 levers.

I think it is going to be a process of matching the shape of your original hoods. I believe A’ME hoods fit Dia Compe.

You may want to ask this question in the Classic & Vintage sub-forum for other alternatives if you can’t find a match.

Sounds like it's bound to cost you at least some significant number of watts.

I suspect it's like touch up paint. There's "perfect match" and there's "not exactly". "Not exactly" draws your eye to the blemish that you're trying to hide.
