But since the couple didn't have any seat bags with them, I assume they have no spare tube, etc. So how could Mondo help them without giving them some supplies?

And to the guy at a cross walk. instead of ignoring her, shake your head and wave her on. People dont know if you don't communicate. Or go if the road is clear, but I wasn't there and dont know the circumstances, so just communicate your intentions.

Saw a guy run out of this factory today with a bunch of "stuff that wasn't his" in his hands. He threw it in his trunk and sped off. I got his license plate and called the cops on him. Not because I really cared that he was stealing some scrap metal from some giant corporation but because if he steals from them I'm sure he wouldn't think twice about throwing someone bike in the back of his trunk. The dude ran right across the bike path with this stuff in his hands.

I was riding in a public park coming up behind two Muslim men {I assume they were Muslim by there attire**As I approached them from behind about 15 feet away I squeezed my little child type bike horn.Apparently seeing me out of the corner of their eye, and the screeching horn panicked them,so they began to run and flail their arms for a few seconds. It was obvious they mistook my horn for some vicious creature

I was on my way from Bloomington IN to Washington DC (yes, it was a long ride) and when approaching the outskirts of Williamsburg VA (I didn't go direct) on a very deserted stretch or road stopped to take a pee. While I was immobilized peeing, I heard a thrashing sound far off in the woods that came closer and closer. Eventually (still peeing) a deer ran up to me and stopped short, just a few feet away, breathing hard. I was out of pee by then but completely dumbfounded, as this big animal and I just stared at each other a couple of moments without moving, then he ran off. I stood there a few moments longer, not really believing what had just happened, then "packed up" and rolled. I found the entry in my cycling diary (from 1980) just to be sure I wasn't dreaming it.

I found $500 cash in the middle of nowhere by the side of the road a couple years ago. Nearest town was 10 miles away so I had no idea how to identify the rightful owner. Dumb luck that.

I rode across the country this summer...so naturally I saw a lot of strange things. One of the most memorable instances was in Texas, running into this guy on the other side of the road:
His name is Gene Glasscock and he yelled to us "I'M GOIN TO SAN DIEGO!" and we were like "....WE JUST CAME FROM THERE!!" [3 weeks prior]. He had ridden this buggy with his dog and 2 mules from California to Georgia beginning Sept 2010, and was on his journey back! Says he lives off social security. His website says he's ridden a horse from the Arctic Circle in Canada to Ecuador in the equator, where he supposedly gave his horse to the Ecuadorian king. Nuts!!
Another strange one was this prairie dog we found on the road somewhere near the border between Show Low, AZ and Quemado, NM:
Funny thing is my teammates saw this poor fellow unpainted. I was riding sweep that day and we were behind the spray painting truck! So peaceful.

I wish I could have taken a picture of this...
While riding today I went into South Mountain Park here in Phoenix. I didn't realize it was Silent Sunday (park is closed to motor vehicles) until I drove in and saw cones blocking the road, and a sign.
Anyway, I just did San Juan trail. I was flying down the hill when I saw a tandem, guy and I'm assuming his wife. The tandem had a kid's seat, with a kid in it. And it was towing a trailer with another kid in it. The wife looked like she was having a good time, smiling and waving.
I stopped at the end of San Juan, and everyone there was commenting on it. I said, "I'd love to see that go up to TV Towers," and everyone laughed.
Note to self: avoid Silent Sunday. I usually do San Juan anyway, which is closed to vehicles (has a chain across to block them). Even so, I'm there by 7:30-8am (depending how long it takes to ride there from home), and when I've done TV Towers there's hardly any cars. Definitely better than all the mess I witnessed today.

Today I saw a guy with his what looked like a 4 or 5 year old standing on front pegs of the bike doing his best leonardo titanic reenactment while he was riding it down the road. It took me a minute to process that.
other times I have seen some things.. just to name a few recent
turtles mating in the road
humans mating in the woods

Not strange but cool. I was riding in lakes country a week ago when a whitetail doe came up out of the ditch apparently not realizing I was there. She spotted me and turned to run in the same direction I was going for several leaps before deciding to continue across the road into the other ditch. I was probably less than 30 feet from her and she seemed more startled than frightened as she just loped off rather than running flat out. I've also had a golden eagle swoop low across the road in front of me close enough to get a good look. Gotta love rural MN.

I was approaching an intersection this afternoon. A car stopped at the stop sign, I slowed to make sure he wouldn't pull out in front of me (I was on an old county highway). When I saw the driver wasn't going to pull out in front of me I started pedaling faster to get out of his way as quickly as possible. I looked down at my speedometer to see how fast I was going and as I looked up happened to see a coiled snake. I missed it by a very narrow margin, I don't know by how much it missed me. I was pretty lucky this time.
